Hello Kendrel,
I am wondering if you have ever been to the ocean? It is an amazing place, almost as amazing as this forum. When I go to the ocean I usually take along an empty canvas and some water paints. My favorite brush is an old heavy handled sable. The generations of paint spatterings have long since concealed the original color of its shaft. (To be honest, even I don't positively recall what it looked like when new.)
It was one time, while I was in the middle of coercing the paint to capture an exceedingly brilliant light play across the water, that my attention was distracted by the tiny footsteps of a child standing directly next to me. I said hi; he nodded his head and smiled. Then he looked at my brush and asked, "How come you use that old brush?"
I answered, "Because it feels good in my hand."
A brush is more than the manufacturer, or the shiny varnished handle. A fancy expensive brush would certainly look nicer while waving it around so people could see, but it would do very little to make my finished paintings come out better.
You asked why we choose to program in PureBasic instead of C/C++/C#? Speaking for myself, I use PureBasic 'Because it feels good in my hand'...
It does not matter which brush you choose to paint your new programs with. The art of software design does not come from a tool, it comes from your use of that tool. I choose what I enjoy, and what I feel is better for the job at hand. I know there is a strong urge to join the 'popular club' and wear the same badges they do. But from my own experience, after I spend so much time waving around my shiny brandname brushes for everyone to see, I suddenly realize that is all I have been doing--just waving my brushes around.
So I will stick with my trustworthy familiar brush (PureBasic), and actually do some painting instead.
Take care.

Geez Art ... I have to say your writing style absolutely captivates me.
It remindes me of the old "Text Adventure Games" I use to play on my humble little PC when I was growing up. They would allow me to take my mind and imagination to mystical places I have never been and interact with the characters I would meet.
While reading your post, I actually felt like I was standing next to the child that was standing next to you... and I saw the tiny glimmers of light dance across the water also.
Anyways...
Couldn't have said it any better !!

I never seen a software designers forum with such beautiful messages.
That's all Purebasic to let your mind free enough to write the best things ... paint your programs ! Excellent.

Haha.. Thank you for the kind words. I logged onto the forum right after talking to my lovely fiancee over the telephone. I am not able to speak with her nearly as often as I would like, and when I do she always manages to bring out the poet in me.
Anyhow, I hope someone will read this posting of ours and realize that beyond the usual marketing writeups, PureBasic truly is one of those rare and valuable applications that is worth its fair price--and so much more. If you don't use it already, you cannot possibly know what you are missing.

Well I just purchased PureBasic.
My decision was for what PureBasic Offers me for the Price!
I have programmed in over 5 different languages and i prefer English Commands and being able to read my code.
Go back 6 months from now and trace your C++ code through pointers, Structures, enums and unions etc.
So thats why I just purchased PureBasic, plus I dont want to pay MS $400.00 just to upgrade my other MS compilers.
I'm hooked on PureBasic!

I've been programming in C for the last 15 years. Before that, I programmed a little in Pascal ( Borland ) and did some interesting projects in FORTH, and currently I have done some rather medium size projects in Python ( Great language, but too slow for end user applications). I am so SICK and tired of C, even though I know how to handle most of it's quirks ( they just come natural by now ), that PB is like oxygen

If I can avoid using C, I will use PB for everything. Most of my latest programming projects have been in Unix systems ( FreeBSD, Linux ), and never in Windows. PB has been the best thing I've found to enter the Windows programming world. And with it's full Win32 API support, I don't even have to go down to C and glue external functions, etc. Thanks to Fred and all for your support on this forums.

kwag,
Be sure you can do everything with Purebasic. We are all discovering each day new 'how to do' because there is no 15 years or more feedback on Purebasic but I am convinced it is possible to do everything.
Welcome to the Purebasic's community for your first post.

The search feature of this forum added to the ressource site save most of the time a lot of time when searching 'how to do' something.
The forum was my first source of information starting with Purebasic.
I don't really have any good idea on a how to do area should be organized to give more benefits to coders. My own way is the tricks'n tips section, opsting sources when I find it nice and good enough.
BTW if you have any idea about this how to do zone, maybe we could start in designing some pages I will host.
Welcome to any good ideas.

I have (hopefully) all templates, examples, user libraries&applications, user hints to problems, etc organized in directories.
Till now there are over 80MB of data (maybe also a lot of old chunk).
The directories name are:
ActiveX
Amiga
Arrays
Basic
Clipboard
COM
Console
CRC
Database
Debugger
Desktop
DirectX
Editor
etc.
I think the most difficult part is to keep the files updated.
Example: Workarounds for Versions 2.2 are not necessary anymore etc.
Or some code use obsolete commands etc.
Everyday there is new stuff on this forum - Oh man, this is a huge task...
Have a nice day...
