Wow - I just got into the office and was surprised to see so many cynical comments.

Thank goodness that was an April fool's joke and not the real product of month's worth of work ... that IDE was AWFUL!
I've haven't seen so many @#$%! buttons, windows, tabs, dividers, status bars, etc. since ... well ... since ... Visual Studio!

Actually, it is a real IDE - PowerBuilder 8.0 by Sybase. Its the environment I code in everyday. I just changed the name at the top and pasted PureBasic code screenshots into the script editor.

*Note - I am not making a plug for PowerBuilder here, it retails for around US$1500 and has a 8MB runtime environment.

So true. It is holding PureBasic back from the corporate environments. But its the old chicken and egg argument isn't it? No one will develop the IDE because the market is too small, but a huge market potentially awaits if an IDE exists.

Who knows - maybe this joke will start something in the community - I know the talent exists to make something like this happen. I think fsw already has the framework written in his head.

Many of you have discussed community projects before, and many have expressed interest in Dare2's request for contracting. Why not create a team and share the profits from a retail IDE?

I only have one request. If anyone does make an IDE - MAKE IT CROSS-PLATFORM!

Sorry, i got here to late...but still dont believe it

Straker: I think the main thing is that Fred isnt interested in placing PB in the corporate environment. Thus one of the reasons for my network post as well. I believe (yes, my own opinion) that there are some things needed for PB to enter such an environment. An IDE, networking features ... actually, I believe those are the main things at this moment.

Because of these is why I believe PB will stay in its beautiful nitch area Its good enough for people who want to take a bit of time to build something, test, etc. But not far along along to cater to corporations.

I agree with you. It's an awesome language as it is but the networking and IDE is what keeps it from being a corporate quality product. Basically, I will be using it for my shareware business but I wish I could use it at work, as well.
