This topics are always a 'little fanatical' he he

I guess that it depends on the kind of people that an applications is targeted. I think teens like skins and older people don't, don't know but don't see a reason to have a strong decision about skinning some app or not, it always depends on the target users.

I should note when I mentioned "kids" I was referring to 3-10 year olds.

@Ricardo,

Yes - I think you're right. The Nintendo generation want an interface that looks like a Video Game and us oldies are just miserable old bugg*rs ;-)

@Lyon,

Actually, yes - you're right there is a place for Skinz for kids to (for instance) make a learning app more fun to use. Particularly creative apps like paint tools.

Personally though, I'm unhappy about kids and PCs in schools.

Unfortunately, its now *acceptable* for kids to do internet research and simply copy'n'paste chunks of text without having to go to the trouble of learning it. My kids (10 & 11) are now banned from using MS Word on the home PC since they discovered the Spell and Grammar checkers.

They use Write now and consequently, the quality of their work has suffered a little. But it is their own work...

About spell-checkers... You should teach your kids about using a dictionary instead, or, at least to learn from the spell-check. Make it a challenge, the better they write, the less corrections to do. Should be rewarded (as you wish).

Yes, the problem resides when they just find what they were requested to apply and simply paste it. I didnt had that chance when I was studying!!! I wish I had though, but I didnt.

But theres nothing wrong on finding something at the net, read about it, learn and write your own text after you've learnt about it. The problem is that they like shortcuts...

My opinion with this is, that only games should have skins, so the player has the look'n'feel for the game and not for the OS. But I hate programs that are skinned.,, for example I make a lot music with FL Studio, but I hate it because it's so hard to use because of the ugly GUI of it. (I mean, dark colors that doesn't even mix together good are very ugly.). But that's not a reason for me to stop working with FL, coz I just love music 8). Another thing is, plugins should mostly have their own GUI. I like all VST plugins for FL, because they have a very good'n'cool GUI.

Just my 5 €uros. :?
