My comment was just a joke. :)

At least M$ finally did use a good design for promoting their developing stuff. The pages do look fresh and symphatic which makes the visitor at least interested.
But they dont keep it simple as a beginner has to get an overview of that link-jungle in there.

The first 3 seconds count, that is what are the next actions are made of.
Show it complex and the consumers first impression is: That product IS complex.

Exactly why i sticked to PB those first 3 seconds were wonderfull!! I was hooked and is the new version (PB4) the best ever!!!

Who needs a BLOATWARE like: "Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition" you can (and may) not do a thing with it!! read the fineprint it is only alllowed for "testing" purposes NOT to make real programs with it!! (Read commercial apps).

Compare the output of a VS with a lean machine like PB! PB's programs are like 10% the size of those from VS (my experience) and do the same stuff no DotNet needed etc...

Just wanted to mention that effective April 19th, 2006, all Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions including Visual Basic, Visual C#, Visual J#, Visual C++, and Visual Web Developer Express will be free permanently!
There's no time-cap anymore.

Here the official page:

Here the blog of the Lead Product Manager of Visual Studio Express:

The FAQ page mentioned above was changed with the new information.

My take: It's just a way to push .NET even more...

Pretty neat. Free is always a plus. I still prefer CodeBlocks though

Even if they are free, with MS you still feel like you are getting ripped off somehow :?

This is a smart move. And they'd be even smarter to bundle these tools WITH Windows itself.
Linux and OSX both come with free developer tools and looked bad IMHO by charging for theirs.
They should be distributing for free the full Visual Studio Pro tools to, if anything, improve their image in the developer community.
