You can't even mirror the software? Man...I can honestly say I hope you never take off because then we'll just have another Microsoft floating around.

Much better

Of course its ok to say that one can mirror and distribute the software, just NEVER claim to have written it himself, never change the software and always distribute in full package with every file intact.

We have put up a special mirror-able versions of rss_bar (read the about screen in the last version). Please find it here:
http://redsparkstudios.co.uk/mirrors/rs ... taller.exe
Mirror description for your site (if you want to):
"rss_bar is a neat auto-hiding shortcut bar that gives you access to your favourite folders, programs and websites quickly. It also has a number of beneficial extra features, such as an integrated google search."

Doesn't this make it Adware?
Oh and by the way I do have firefox!

Seems to me that this is adware, stupid bullsh*t and it gets a 4/10 from me
Firstly, I don't like to download other software just to get one working. Secondly, it seems to be a good idea, but it doesn't look like it's done in PB. I have my arguments to this: When I open any kind of exe compiled with PB with my PE tools and resource hackers, I can see what processes the application runs.. For example, a simple program loads the Win API DLLs, etc.. And from my results, your exe doesn't have all processes loaded as with other exe's created with PB. Either you did it with other language, or you hacked the PBCompiler (which is rather unbelievable.). Thirdly, it seems to me that you just advertise yourself here. I mean, you sign up in the forums and then post your programs here to have more people on your site.
I am not taking steps to legal actions nor do I charge you, but those are my comments for you.
EDIT: By the way, when did you buy PB?

Firstly: we are sorry if it did not detect your firefox, but are you running 1.5 (because it checks for the registry key 1.5)
We bought PB about july last year actually. We love it, and wouldn't attempt anything like this in any other language.
If you want real proof this was made with PB, you can see that the code has "D:\program files\projects\purebasic" as a string in there (use your favourite hex editor). You can also find common libraries. It uses all native PB commands: the PNG image decoder, the sprite(2D) library and winapi calls - it is strange that the exe doesn't match the format of many others...
Just mocked up a poll script on the site as well for the next iteration of rss_bar :

Hint: If you make software which does not work, remove the start menu icons with the uninstall.
The bar does not appear on the left side of my screen as advertized. I tried to move mouse there, rest it there and click there, nothing happened, I needed to kill the process.
Uninstalling it did not even remove the uninstall icon from the start menu.
I am using Windows 2000.

Actually I don't see a use for this. The functionality is built right into Windows toolbars.

@Trond: It didn't appear at alll... This is most likely because it is not detecting the mouses position. Are you using a non-conventional mouse or a strange screen resolution? It is an api error here...

It can be nice. I think its a good idea. As far as adware goes.... Not really. Unless I'm mistaken its pretty normal and accepted to recommend other programs. (Just don't install them without permission or by "hiding" permissions in a EULA.)
But by the way rss: Pretty neat, glad you made it in pb and chose to help add to the library of software written with pb. The mirror allowing was a good choice
Thanks for sharing your program for free.

HEY HEY HEY PEOPLE!!!
This is NOT advare. Simply not.
Its simply THE FIRST TIME YOU LAUNCH IT searching for the apps made by themself and firefox. ITS simply for user convience, and its bullshit to call it adware.
But by the way rss: Pretty neat, glad you made it in pb and chose to help add to the library of software written with pb. The mirror allowing was a good choice
Yes. Its good to see well written software. The bar works, and some of my friends who still uses the old ms office 2000 toolbar, i think will like this tool. It contains more icons than normal in windows, and i like it. Only thing would be cool if it was "skinnable", eg you could choose colour.
AND if you people cant get to view it, its simply because RSS was smart enough to make it disturb you as little as possible.. HOW?? SIMPLY because it will not take the whole right side so if you move your mouse there accidentally it will show up, but only the space the bar itself uses. ALSO you have to hold the mouse for about 0.5 seconds wich is ALSO good.
Only design feature that i dont like too much is the settings, where the window has too much space compared to how much it needs.
Oh when i think of it one more, you should have a feature that turns the autoshowing off when various app's are running. Or simply make a feature "Minize to tray" and then a little icon pops up down there and you cant open the bar again until that icon is clicked.
Its a good little util, and actually does a better job than various other toolbars.
netmaestro wrote:Actually I don't see a use for this.
Toolbars have existed a long time, and m$ havent yet been so smart to intergrate one that could be put various places and autohide so it doesnt disturb the user...!
Besides i like a clean desktop not filled with tons of things
