I used to frown upon Java, but then .NET hit and began to wonder if Java
was actually a better solution than .NET is.

Since then, I just plain gave up on both.

I suppose it should, but we have had lot of problems with many applications after the 2.0 installation and if you call the developer they say;

"2.0?!?! Our applications don't run with 2.0 installed!"

That's the reality...

MS is tired of being the OS queen. It wants to move onto other things. So it is giving people motivation to come up with a better OS.

1) Sounds you are not really where looking for a new tool, so may i consider this a useless remark?

If that is the case then that is the fault of the author of the *program*, nothing else. I have lots of 1.1 code running with 2.0, though I'll admit I wish they had waited to release 2.0 a while.

Well, it happens too often. Maybe the developers will learn?!

To many developers think their application is the only thing running on a system and don't give a sh*t about conflicting with other apps or systems.

I "wash" bad applications and installations every day to make them work in a, for example - multi user system.

Some of the worst applikations to get to work in a multiuser environment are IMHO,

* Mobil Phone Applications (sync apps and so on)
(Wow! They are really bad written in some cases)

* Online Banking Systems
(For example some online banks are using the same certificate third party software and are impossible to get to work together. Other Online Banking Systems are using an Auto Update function that can't be turned off. How good is that when you run it on a Win2k3 server with 40 users?!?)
