Smokers are "voluntary sicks" indeed, and all, including conscious people have to pay a surplus to sanity services due to that voluntary sicks.

It may be your body to do with what you please for now, but what happens in 20 years when you're racking up 200,000 in health care costs for cancer treatments, emphysema, heart disease, etc.? Are you going to pay for all that?

When I go to the hospital in 20 years asking for that, if they say: "It was your choice", I'll answer: "I know, that's why I've been paying 300% taxes over tobacco, to have a good health service when I'm sick". BTW, those taxes cover the health spendings provoked by smoking way beyond its cost.
OTOH, I admit smoking is bad, of course. But personally, I don't feel like quitting right now, although I may change my mind in the future.

I pay my taxes. the same as anyone else. and for the record I had ONE sick day last year. and the year before that NO sick days. I'm not one of those people who went out to a bar once to often at the weekend and got way to drunk and couldn't be bothered to get out of bed monday morning... I work HARD and earn my money.
and I really wouldn't wory about the money that my health will cost you... I pay more taxes than you ever will and that is because of people trying to do me a favour by giving the governments more money to do nothing good with.... all because I smoke and cause less polution per year that you do with your cars

hmm... got to say something to the "surplus conscious people have to pay".
What about fat people, extreme sportsman, people just not careing about
their health, etc. ?
I don't want to say smoking is good or anything, no weighting.

Smoked 10 years ~40 cigarettes a day, than all of a sudden i stopped it (two years ago).
And no, surely not because of any "healthy" things coming to my mind, or sickness. No.
Just because i thought about one question:
Is the hell of money and the ongoing price updates really worth it ?
For me i said NO.
So i stopped. (No one thought i would really do this, not even me... but its all in your mind... totally NO physical problems!)
I really have loved to smoke and am quite sure i will restart somewhere in the future.
And @LuCiFeR[SD] i was one of these guys, going in the bar, drinking till i loose my mother-language and smoked the hell out of my brain.
(And it was FUN!

)
All of these stupid discussions about healthy, money, whatever will never change and are totaly unnecessary. Let the smokers smoke, the drinkers drink and don't think you have to stop anyone from it.
I am just happy, that other guys go on smoking (i love the smoke-smell in the air

)

yeah
btw in the end its not very expensive to have smokers. Think about how much the state gets for 1 single smoker, smoking 40 cigs a day in 30-40 years!
i was one of these guys, going in the bar, drinking till i loose my mother-language and smoked the hell out of my brain.
I am one of those now.. Nah i dont go in a bar drinking every weekend, but there are some cases like last saturday where i had hell of a trouble getting a taxa because i didnt know where i really was except in the city and i had real troubles speaking..
My grandad havent been smoking his whole life, now at an age of 67 or so, he suddently started. Well, i doubt that is going to ruin his life, rather the other way around.

Well, first of all. Not all fat people can do anything it can be genetic, afterall smoking cant. Some people just cant loose weight, but that doesnt mean that they are in bad shape. Look at me, im not fat though, im strong. Not very high, and im not a skeleton i do have a few killo's over what i should weight. However i dont have trouble running at all! I take the stairs etc, so the extra weight simply do that im better at fighting

Also the doctors say that they can see its muscles. The one disadvantage is that muscles are more clear when you are thin.
But again i doubt fat people are taking more money than curing cancer...

Well, those that love you will suffer if you die from it.

Well, as i see it, if you breathe air, ur sucking in exaust gases from cars, trucks, etc, the elctricity we use puts poisonous gasses into the air, the various govts of the world have been exploding test neuclear bombs over the years which put radiation into our air, food supply, etc, we live in dwellings containing such things as asbestos and who knows what else in the way of cancer causing agents. The food we eat conatins all sorts of genetically modified materials, preservatives, etc that again who knows what it will do to us, but yet, smoking is what kills us????

Not always, but yes. How else do you explain a smoker in a family dying of
lung or throat cancer, but not his wife and kids? They were all breathing the
same polluted air, eating the same genetically-modified food, etc... so why
didn't the wife and kids die too? And why weren't all their lungs black with
nicotine tar and so on?

Well, in my eyes smoking in presence of non smokers is not only bad behaviour but aggravated battery. This applies especially while eating in a restaurant or at places where you can't easily evade the smoke, like for example train platforms etc.
The other things are bad for us too, that's right, but
- why willingly add another thing to the list?
- I'm also in favor of reducing those things, for example through investing in cleaner energy sources instead of pushing the old ones to their (and our environment's) limits.

I use to smoke 20 a day from the age of 13, tried to give up loads of times never seemed to succeed, tried acupuncture, hypnosis, nicotine patches, will power the lot..... then a year ago aged 38, I woke up one morning and subconsciously didn't want to smoke anymore and I think that was the difference, I really didn't want to smoke. I'll admint the first week wasn't easy but I used the nicotine lozengers for two weeks and I was home and dry. A year on and I feel much better for it, I can enjoy more time with my kids playing football, swimming, bike riding etc.
A year on and I very rarely think about smoking even though my wife still smokes and there are always cigarettes available.
I don't condem those that smoke as I used to one of them, and its not easy giving up, at least until you decide subconsciously that you do.
The best thing of all is the kids appreciate the fact that I don't smell like an ashtray anymore.
