Ubuntu looks nice...

I've had a long journey with Linux... started with Mandrake... it was good, but way too much CDs and the GUI was kinda slow on my comp... not to mention the RPM system sucks (I couldn't get to install GAIM without spending 5 hours finding out how to install a package which wasn't found... and after I did, GAIM didn't installed... so I quit Mandrake)

Then I came to Slackware 10.1. Oh hell yeah, great nice distro... takes from 2 to 4 Gb to install, and I would recommend it for the ones that can handle themselves around Linux without asking too much (Like... noobs but not so noobs). Didn't liked it, had problems with it too.... quit Slackware.

Amigo Linux... never try that please X_X.

Puppy Linux... er... no thanks.

NOW a GOOD Linux distro I've found (but I haven't been able to migrate fully to it) is Zenslack (formerly named MiniSlack) which is a mini-fied version of Slackware, which is just one CD, installs in 2Gb max. and has a NICE GUI (XFCE) which you can easily adapt to. Tricky to install stuff, and you have to mostly compile stuff that isn't in Slackware packages, but isn't that hard... at least the big apps. WINE works cool on it too so you can run some windows apps on it. I like Zenslack... but aren't very used to its gui... or something like that, don't know... it may be the monitor refresh rate or something... thing is that my eyes gets tired and feel like they're working the double when I'm doing stuff in Linux than in Windows.. but it must have been me when I set up X :/ Either way, I like it...

after you started to like Linux, you can roll your own, using http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/

The documentation is an excellent read, even if you don't want to assemble your own distribution. Highly recommended!
