For me, programming is my form of art. But the main reason I can't pay an artist is I can't afford it. And for making freeware games, it is not exactly cost-effective to be paying artists (Luckily there is no shortage of artists who are skilled and willing to work for free). But, I generally buy any 2D art/sprite pack I find for sale and put them to good use

It's got six legs and it's stuck it's probiscus into the car! I think it may be a mosquito.
PS: I'm not paying $10 for something with a bug in it!
PPS: Colour would be nice as well.
