I think you are right.
Software Patents should protect basically the inidividuals or small companies against big ones, because big ones has the power to make big marketing and makes profit for any good idea and even beat the creator of an idea.

I think MS are infrastructure, and have created a market for all of us! In case you feel real paranoid
about them, the source is given to every government here, so no need to worry.
They don't behave differently to any other software company out there either, and the softwares they
sell works as advertised, so what's the problem ??

I disagree. I've dealt with a number of software companies over the years, most of which were very small in comparison, who provided superb service and actually listened to their customers. The quality of customer service you receive is inversely proportionate to the size of the organisation in my experience.
Here's an example of Microsoft's cavalier and arrogant attitude.....I used to manage an NT server running Exchange 5.5 among other things. I had a major problem with the RAS service which was mentioned in a Q document on the MS website. So, I rang them. In the first instance, they refused to let me speak to an engineer until I'd given them my credit card number to be charged at £200 per telephone call. When I told them I had a Q number they eventually put me through foc. The result? The MS engineer instructed me to perform several tasks on the server in order to fix the issue. He wanted me to do them there and then, but I refused because what he'd asked me to do would have broken the server completely. I fixed it myself in the end. I never rang them again.
Besides, I don't ever remember seeing a Microsoft advert informing us of all the bugs in their software

Ok Jim, but I haven't had any problems with them so far, neither at work nor at home, and I guess this
is the way Windows and MS softwares works for most of us ??

True enough.
utopiomania, I'm sorry if my post sounded like I wanted an argument, that's not how I meant it to be. It's just that my dealings with Microsoft over the years as a Network and IT Manager have been very frustrating and I guess my dislike of them came through in my post

No problems of course!

I guess I have been lucky seeing 95OSR2, 98SE and XP Home and no blue screen at all!
Two minutes ago Ms AntiSpyware detected Kazaa on my machine, and warned me that removing it meant all music
from it in the shared folder will be deleted if I did so.
I didn't know that, and found it very thoughtful of them (MS) to tell me!! Just a small story to prove my point that
they aren't that bad after all.
