Point 1: True
Point 2: Are you crazy? Theres more quests and sidestories than I can handle...
Point 3: What do you mean?
Point 4: Sort of true. But then its not the main game either. Its just a quick PvP section...
Point 5: There areas are very large. Takes quite a long walk to get from one area to another and theres no loads in between. (Maybe you have older hardware?)
Point 6: There are real cities. Not sure why you'd want a "store" as a trader is much more realistic for the setting. It's not like you have a Walmart in the days of swords and castles...
Point 7: Yea they are pretty static unless you're on a mission. But I have had some encounters with npcs who I stumble upon in the wilderness who are arguing or in the middle of a battle, etc. For example a prince and a king were arguing over some stuff and the king threatened to banish the prince. (And theres more that happens later but I won't spoil it now)
You are right that it's not a "real" MMORPG. For one thing the combat won't put you to sleep

.
The best way to describe this game I think is a cross between WoW and Diablo 2.
Good mix and well worth the money, especially if you can't afford the $180/yr that WoW costs in subscriptions alone.
Well, first of all - I don't say it's a bad game... It's very good, but you can't compare it to WoW. It's as you say "cross between WoW and Diablo 2 (and Dungeon Siege I think).
Point 2, You maybe right... I've only spent about 10 hours in the game - and yes, I'm out of the tutorial part. But what I mean is more technical... You can't walk everywhere in the game as in EQ2 or WoW. You see one location and want to go there - but you can't... You have to follow a road or something, it's very frustrating when you come from WoW or EQ2.
Point 3, I mean - you can't learn a craftskill (mining, skinning and so)? Or?
Point 5, Not if you compare with WoW (as you shouldn't). In WoW you can walk around for hours without one single stop.
Point 6, You maybe right?!? but the trading and merchant system seems simpler then in WoW and EQ2.
Point 7, Ok... I'll maybe miss the "voiceovers"?!?!
My big mistake was to compare GW directly with WoW and I was disapointed - now I think it is rather fun to play, when you know what to expect and what the game is about.
and you are right... the monthly fee will kill at least one of EQ2 or WoW (maybe both in the long run). The last time I played EQ2 (about a week ago) it wasn't many people online and in WoW very many players are at level 44 - 60, Blizzard have to do something to keep it alive. Many people are waiting for STO that I'll think will be released in 2006.
Hehe... it's rather funny in WoW - the "rare items" aren't so rare any longer (because of all high lvl players) and you almost earn more money to craft some low level stuff.
another thing...
I'm in the Dungeon Siege beta program and we will get a beta any day now!!

Think if GAS Powered Games did a real MMORPG of it...
