Well just make sure you install the devel packages mentioned above, and you should get it working..

OK, I'll make a note of that
BTW, when I installed Mandrake 10.1 I did so from the DVD version and I installed ALL the programming related things I could find there. But still had problems. Hopefully Gentoo will install next to XP without too much problems.

GeoTrail : Fedora
Gentoo is for serious geeks who know what there doing current.
neditor is just a throw away name, it doesn't have a name really, you can't set much of anything yet!, but that is the plan yes.

OK, thanks for the feedback Inner.
It says on Redhat's site that Fedora shouldn't be used in a critical inviroment. Does it mean it is unstable? I mean, lots of Mandrake users swear by it, but it's the easiest one I've tried to crash. And the first time I run it after installation I get a message about a program crash.

@GeoTrail: Fedora isn't more/less unstable than the others..
Maybe a little, but what RedHat is talking about is most compability with corporate software things, and closed source programs...

I have completly swithed to Fedora now since core 3 was released. I have started using Gnome more and Fedora has Gnome 2.8 as the default windows manager (has KDE too). You will need to load all of the multimedia items manually though. If you follow the list, it takes no time at all. I have everything working on my rig at the moment - Divx, Xvid, DVD, MP3s, Quicktime, Realmedia, etc....
Here is the guide I use to bring a fedora box up to snuff with multimedia:

also, here is more good extra installation information for core 3:

Great, thanks alot for the link Beach.
I got Fedora up and running last night. Somehoe I get the feeling that it is better built than Mandrake. Everything seems much more well put together if you know what I mean. I've tried several versions of Mandrake but this if my first real try with Fedora C3. I was very impressed by the live update feature too. Works really nice.
Is there a program I can use to play WMV files?
Also, I want to get a backup of my thunderbird and firefox settings from XP to Fedora, is that possible without loosing the passwords?
Oh yeah, back on topic, I haven't managed to get the pbcompiler to work yet. See my screenshot here

When I try to edit the config file it says it is readonly and I don't have access to edit it. Is there a way I can edit it after I use su - to get root permission?

Yes but what commands do I write to edit the file? I'm not familiar with the Linux shell commands.

If you are already in KDE or Gnome then I would use 'gedit' as it is loaded by default...
