Hi Randy,

With your method I still get a 'doze message "There is no disk in the drive... CANCEL / Try Again / Continue" when I check a drive with no media; specifically a memory card adaptor with no card plugged in. The adaptor is currently appearing as drives FGHI, but can be mapped elsewhere if I use another machine or add fixed drives into the machine I'm using at present.

I'm not likely to go with other platforms, the PC meets my needs and that of my clients (who all have upmarket laptops with XP Pro) and use adaptors to use MMC, SD, Compact flash etc filled with data from hardware we produce.

So far my little routine can be used to scan drives D to N and seems to find the drive+file I'm searching for without any confusing system messages for non existent / empty drives.

Hi Richard... I didn't realize you wanted to test for a drive. I thought you just wanted to test for a drive. :)

I'm with Blueznl, now that I understand dodging the prompt thing. Pretty cool!
