Just cause I'm here to help you people nail these guys I have 2 bits of info from little encounter. They guys yahoo screen name was h4ng4m3. He also contacted me through AIM via ICQ and here is that ICQ number 237240482. I do want to know something from you guys, cause this has to do with what I think the guy was doing. Was 3.80 ever a full version of PB or was it a demo? Can a demo be upgraded to a full version via an update you download for the full version? Thats what I think he was trying to do.

He probably already got the full version.. you would have to ask Geo..
If Geo's pw to the forums is the same to the secure download area.

actually a while back someone posted that they had seen 3.80 on a file sharing network, which adertised it was the full version. could mean quite a few people may have gotten it.

I've seen purebasic on *****, but didn't bother to download and check it out to see if it was the full version or not. Before anyone hassles me for even looking for it, bear in mind that I have two legal licenses for purebasic and was just curious.

I was under the impression that the archives we download from the purebasic site were touched so that they could be traced back to the account. The downloads that I do have a different filename (the last few characters) when I download from my two accounts. If I am not mistaken, Fred and co. can use this stuff to figure out who is releasing their copies and they can cancel that account. We are also seeing the smart update security beefing up with username/password being required.

If it was me, I'd use the smart update to corrupt the compiler on any stupid pirate that tried to update.

From my point of view, the compiler is priced so reasonably that I can't see the reason behind pirating it. The executables that people make can be identified (with a little work) as coming from the purebasic compiler, so anyone releasing software can be traced back anyhow.

great idea, if they find the pirates. But if they are using the old PB the smartupdate wont work.

I totally agree with that. Even my mostly semi-broke self managed to swing buying a copy for myself. I really want to buy one or two more for my company when the time comes. I can really see myself and my company supporting PB.

I'm sure fred will do something the next time he visits the forums.

About pirated copies:
I have seen various PB versions on p2p over the time. There is nothing to
do about that, even the new secure download probably won't change that.
The reason that even SmartUpdate is protected now is that these guys at
least won't use any of fred's payed bandwidth.

It gets really funny when these guys try to demand support. We had that once,
too bad it was in the bugs section and is deleted now. It was entertaining to read

what are they thinking? Whatever. I have bought PB and im happy i did that. I usually buy all my dev stuff, because i hate when i can not release a program legally. I also seen some PB versions on some p2p networks. Hmm it must have been e-mule or something i belive. But that was after i bought pb, just to see how wide-spread it was on the p2p network.
