As Rob and I have realised that at least 2 people are probably going to
miss the deadline and we have only 2 bots yet, we agreed to give you 2
more days to send in your bots. Please do us the favour and make use of
this offer

All the bots have be received by Rob ( rob at robsite.de ) until friday, 18:00 (GMT +01)

The contest has ended, finally. Three (3) contestants have participated an i will let them fight against each other now
@blueznl: too bad, but you can always take part without competition (and win glory and honor instead of a torch :))

I would have submited my AI that can control the enemy's AI... but it may be against the rules
It's too bad, beacuse it's really very funny looking
Anyways, even though this compo wasn't very popular this time, I hope it continues! These things can be very fun, and maybe in the next round more people will find the time to enter something
What I would like to see is an online AI battle... that spectators could watch... something like the Rocket Arena mod for the Quake games...
If I ever get any spare time I'll contribute to the engine!

But who knows when that will be!

hey poly, now that's a little project i might try my hand at...
something like...
1. a game module (2d) that features some weapons, machines etc.
2. a 'player' module that allows humans to play
3. an 'interface' that allows programs to participate
4. 'building blocks' so people can customize their own robots
5. a play back option to show the battles
perhaps the best way to communicate would be over tcp/ip...
hmm, is this something? it would make a nice little project with lots of different parts involved...
i'd love to make it 3d, but i know 'zilch' about 3d...

The contest has ended and we have a winner.
Two months after the start, 3 bots have arrived and where tested for best intelligence in a fight against each other, both as AI_1.dll and AI_2.dll.
After this, i fought myself against each bot three times and won (closely).
A detailed and remarkably exciting description of each fight can be found on the <a href="contest03.htm">german site</a>. My english is too bad to translate this, sorry
The bots and replays can be found here:
http://mentaloverflow.de/purecontest/contest03_en.htm
The combatants
Idibotby El_Choni
With 245 codelines and only one Procedure the smallest and lightest bot, but complexly nested If- and For-constructs imply unforeseen strengths.
AI_andy by AndyMars
474 codelines and 19 Procedures power this mid-weight bot. His tactic is the confusion of the enemy through hectic movement and good pathfinding-routines.
AI_PMV by PMV
This monster-bot weighs 4223 codelines and 29 Procedures. He is familiar with the tactic of retreat and also good in offensive, to the cost of high CPU-usage...
The matches
Code: Select all
AI_1.dll AI_2.dll Winner Through... Replay
AI_PMV AI_andy AI_PMV points win Yes
AI_PMV Idibot Idibot points win Yes
AI_andy Idibot Idibot points win Yes
AI_andy AI_PMV AI_andy early timeout through AI_PMV No
Idibot AI_PMV Idibot early timeout through AI_PMV No
Idibot AI_andy AI_andy points win Yes
So the end-score is:
Idibot: 3
AI_andy:	2
AI_PMV: 1
We finally come to the awards ceremony. Please stand up and applaude frenetic:
- With 3 points, the 1. Place goes to Idibot by El_Choni - Miguel Calderón Alonso

- 2 points and thus the 2. Place was attained by AI_andy by AndyMars - Andy Marschner

- 1 point and the honestly 3. Place goes to AI_PMV by PMV - Michael Verhülsdonk

Congratulations!
If i have El_Chonis address, the noble donator will send the Maglite to him
