Excellent! Thank you for the links I'll definately put them on my "have to check out" list. Currently stuck in a 2-week project at work that's going to be quite painful, but I'll look at them ASAP.
No worries on the other issue. Hope I didn't seem defensive. I know some folks have had issues...others haven't. ...movin' on...
Welcome Krylar!, remember me on the BC forum?
Hope the PB version of the book turns out as good as the BB one or even better (is that possible tho?) regards!.
! Black holes are where God divided by zero ! My little blog! (Not for the faint hearted!)
Great to see you here Krylar. Been a Blitz Coder member for a couple years now. Love my Blitz Basic. Love my Pure Basic even more. If you put one tenth as much work into your book, as you've done in the BC web site. We're all in for a treat.
By the way Krylar. Might I suggest downloading the jaPBE program (Just Another Pure Basic Editor) that can be found on this site. One of the best text editors I've ever worked with. Offers Code Folding, Code Completion, Extensibility.
Hold it guys! Give the man some room. Don't give Krylar all these special add ons like JAPbe (what?--a chapter on folding code uses in 2D games development?...NOT!) and these user created libraries for 2D programming. I want the book to be "pure" PureBasic coding. That is anyone with PB can open up the book and get busy. If the book comes with a CD that has libraries that must be installed first, or worse, a website URL where it's necessary to download certain libraries for certain chapters that would suck!
Some of you put up code for download, then others complain that it doesn't work, then you have to respond with what libraries they need, then some of you forget what library it was you installed and used in your code, or when a PureBasic upgrade breaks certain functionality in your libraries... it's a mess. That is why I stay away from any code that uses libraries not distributed by official PureBasic releases.
So back I say, back! You brilliant savage coder beasts! Let the man work and write about PureBasic in its purest, virgin form.
Thanks for the info, everyone. I'm probably going to stick to the PB language itself, but it's cool to know that there's more stuff out there...and maybe it'll get a mention, or if it's really cool, a chapter
I'm recently coming off of a major launch with my employer, so I was pulling 16-18 hour days for about 2 weeks, weekends included. I'm a bit burned out at the moment, as you may imagine. But as soon as I can my wits about me (which assumes I actually had at one time), I'll be off to get the writing done.
I just wanted to give an update on how things are going with the book for this. There's been a lot of real-life issues that have been eating my time for the last couple of months, but I've done as much as I can to keep progress moving forward.
As things stand, I have done a lot of code porting and some chapter work as well. I have about 4 weeks in which I can strongly focus on this book so I'm hoping to get a TON of it done. From there it should be mostly edits and such, and then off to the publisher.
Thanks for everyone's patience. I wish I could do nothing but this type of thing full-time, but, alas, it just doesn't pay enough
Hmm.The book would be really interested.Another aspect that would be more than useful, would be how to make your apps cross-platform.
Which commands to use etc.
UK based means I can get it somewhere local - lets hope Waterstones have it. They used to have loads of game programming/design books, but now its all VB.net and C#!!! Not to mention plenty of PHP and Photoshop.
Mark my words, when you least expect it, your uppance will come...
Krylar wrote:Embrance: Unfortunately that's a bit outside the scope if this writing. But I agree it's a very good idea.
Moonshine: It'll be published via Idigicon, Ltd., a UK-based company that publishes software, games, and some programming book stuff.
Thanks!

Well some aspecet(like networking)could be ported with a minimum try.And it would be a very nice "plus" to the whole book.I have seen that more and more developers look for cross-platform engines, languages and everytihng related. No more Windlowz!
