It depends on the emulator.
On Amiga Shapeshifter was nearly a 1:1 Emulator. Almost all 68k-Software worked well. Even games (Rebel Assault, Day of the Tentacle, Hardline, Deadalus Encounter and so on).
So if there *was* a good PPC-Mac-Emulator for x86, you could probably use it as a decent development-platform. But I don´t know a PPC-Emulator for x86.
(But I also remember "PC-Task" which even ran Windows 95 on an Amiga (68040 with 40 MHz!) - but it was sooooooooo slooooooooow.... You could only call it a "proof of concept"

Mac OS X would be a better revenue maker for you Fred. OSX is taking off!!
I understand that there are some user groups and people using Amiga's still, but the Mac OSX operating system can run circles around those old machines. But this is my opinion and how you use your time for development is up to you Fred...
Heres my choices for OS Support:
Windows, Linux, OSX, and BSD

I assume the Xfree86 PD GUI API would be similar/same as XWindows for all the commercial Unixes?
IBM own the PPC used in MAC OSX machines and use a beefed up version in their own RS/6000 / pSeries Unix Servers & even the AS/400.
There's potential for Fred to make a core language that is code compatible accross every major OS - wow!
I think OSX is BSD based - not Linux - many of the commercial UNIXes are BSD based: Sun / IBMs AIX / HPUX (I think) interest from one of the big boys could be good for PB ( ie $$$$ for FredWith Mac OSX being based on the linux kernal I'm surprised it wouldnt be fairly easy to implement since linux support already exists

Yes, My mistake. The MacOS X IS based on BSD ;( so my argument is crap. Please ignore previous verbal spew
I must have been thinking Darwin for the unix component.
Anyway... Mac WOULD be a better development target than Amiga IMHO Fred and here is why:
I hear that Apples next version of the MaxOS will be based on the new AMD Hammer http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Pro ... 08,00.html processor (unconfirmed as yet but from a reliable source) rather than the PowerPC so that may be significant news.
The opteron http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Pro ... 99,00.html is looking sweet too.
Already MacOS X has really awakened people to the Mac environment. If stores would put proper demos up without the keyboard being locked I think it would do even better. Considering the MS Hate on, and Linux feeling teckie and not being more family oriented...
I am still waiting to get an opportunity to just check out a MAX OS X box with that setup myself.
If they could demonstrate all of the staple capabilities such as instant messaging, Importing, Editing and exporting to MS office etc I would be sold.
So..........................On Amiga's:
Sorry guys... the TRS-80 Model I, Apple 2e, Commodore 64 were all cool in thier times too
I say that with pride lol.
The Amiga line that I owned (500, 1000, 4000) was cool, I loved it, programmed in both AMOS Pro and Blitz. But then Commodore went under. Then the next company that owned it went under. And then the next. How much exemplification do you need that the AmigaOS is just not it?
Maybe the New Amiga OS at http://www.amiga.com will take off but its just not getting market penetration like Apple's MacOS X imho.
in closing this long winded post...
What will happen if you could just install MAX OS X on your Intel box? It would be on mine tomorrow.

i guess fred deserves all the credit he can get...
but... from a COMMERCIAL point of view, the amiga is dead (got a 2000 / 68020 laying around somewhere gathering dust)... no more 'classical' amiga's are being made, and the userbase is rather limited... if i was fred, i would discontinue amiga support (sorry guys, but money is money)
windows is very popular and thus commercially acceptable (you bet
)
linux is somewhat doubtfull, but certainly more promising than the amiga...
then there's the new max os-x... mmm... with the limited amount of programming languages available it might be a worthwile choice...
in fact, there is one platform that most people disregard, and which might be in fact quite profitable, and that is pda's, anything windows ce / pocket pc based... unfortunately, every device has its own processor (brrrr)
which would lead me to the following list, based upon my personal perceived
value and feasibility as commercial product...
1. windows
2. max os-x
3. pda's (unlikely to be ever supported)
4. linux
5. amiga
you can tell that i do not have high hopes for linux or amigas...
from a commercial point of view, there would be no market for amiga os, i guess, and i think we should give fred all the credit he deserves

Well, i come from Amiga world, and only one year coding for PC too, you talk about a A2000/68020?.... ehem, this is very old, but one friend has buy one month ago a Mediator, a card to connect hardware of PC such as Sound blasters, Vodoos, etc... in a few months it will buy a processor card with TWO PPC processors a G3 and a G4 in one computer... Its true that software amiga market isnt very good, but little developers such as me, continue making little interesting programs... Another question is that i continue receiving emails from the amiga world suggesting things for my programs, and a little software company wrote me an email to buy my Amiga program called YAGAC one or two years ago, but finally i stop the project to rewrite it for Pure Basic, I want PB, and i want PB for amiga...but... from a COMMERCIAL point of view, the amiga is dead (got a 2000 / 68020 laying around somewhere gathering dust)... no more 'classical' amiga's are being made, and the userbase is rather limited... if i was fred, i would discontinue amiga support (sorry guys, but money is money)

Post Data. I will remind that there is some people bought Pure Basic for AMIGA, the project started for Amiga, Pure basic comes from amiga, when i bought PB, PB was only for Amiga, and the PC version comes after... is obviusly that PC is more commercial... but i remember that Amiga is present in the new PDA´s as Compaq, not all the Amiga world is dead...

I bought this compiler because it supports all 3 formats.
If it only supported win/linux i wouldn't have bought it. There
are many other compilers that do that, free ones too.
I don't claim i use my amiga every day, but it is nice to know that
i can port a program to it in a blink of an eye if i ever wanted to.
And for the macX, why not...the more the marrier.
