Finally the board is back

Post by NicTheQuick »

The whole day I was wondering what happened to the PureBasic Forums and the main website.
What was the problem?

My guess was some kind of change in the provider or server record www in "A". DNS refreshes with time. I might be wrong. This was my first guess.

No, the server was not even reachable as if it was shutdown.

Not only the boards were unreachable, but also Spiderbasic board, and even https://www.purebasic.com/

Maybe Fred's hosting provider had an outage?

Yes, they declared the server dead, so I ordered a new one and in between it went back online ! So I'm waiting for answer but if I can avoid to setup a new server and migrating all the data, I'm fine with it. It looks like they got an outage which impacted the whole connectivity as any connection attempt ended in a timeout.

You probably should consider to hire a server admin then you can concentrate on your main tasks and don't even have to think about any server trouble.

I guess you're using some kind of Virtual Root Server, right? In that case the storage is usually located somewhere else and independent from the Virtual Machine Host itself. My guess it that they found out about that outage through their monitoring and then moved the whole system to another one with the same storage.

And in case you need someone to have a look at the server I can help. I am quite experienced with that kind of stuff. And as a long-term member I hope I am trustworthy enough and we can even have a contract if needed.

No, it's a full server with its own storage, I'm kind of old school. It's the same server which is back, meaning the problems was somewhere else. @Hexor, would be so nice if could afford one

@Nick thanks for the offer I will contact you if needed.

Finally the old server died today. The good news is we are back online on a new server which is much more powerful than the old one ! If you have some time, please test the forums and the main website to see if all looks fine !

Great news Fred. Both the website and this forum are running fast here in the UK.

Just had "site not responding"… seems it was related to my IP (VPN worked)… maybe I browsed too fast to test it
"Refreshed" IP and now all is ok
