Weird e-mail asking for PB account password
Thank you to have reported such practices ! It's of course a fake mail as all official mail would be under the form of something@purebasic.com. As we have full access to accounts so we will never ever request your password, which is even unknown from us (crypted in the DB). It's a badly done so called 'social engineering' attack
. I will delete the 'Admins' user (and forbid such names in the future). Yahoo.com will be advised too. If you have answered this mail, just ask for a new one, and the pirate will be out (or contact me).

well a simple fix for this would be to set the filter in phpbb's administration control panel to block names like *admin* or any other name that could confuse users like this in the future. Forums can be a bloody nightmare to run at times and it is a real pain in the arse to keep on top of things with them.
But, unfortunately, while purebasic is a popular programming language, people are always gonna try to pull stunts like this to get a free copy.
perhaps it maybe an idea to post something along the lines of...
"The pure basic team will NEVER ask you for your password or login details. If anyone asks you, do NOT disclose this information"
on the main web page, in the F.A.Q. Perhaps in any future newsletter type thing too. and while we think about it... it maybe a damn good idea to put a sticky warning on the forum.
[Edit] Damn, Fred beat me to it lol[/Edit]

you arent gong to stop full versions from getting on filesharing. people simply RAR up the entire program directory, put a registry file in there too that sets the right registry values, and bam, full versions for free. in our lab, we were reinstalling software from a CD that got scratched up; the software that reads the digitizer data of our electrophysiology apparatus, so i had to bundle up the directory on a good hard drive and transfer it from compuer to computer so our lab wouldnt be scientifically helpless. if we can do that legally, surely people do that illegally.
Code: Select all
!.WHILE status != dwPassedOut
! Invoke AllocateDrink, dwBeerAmount
!MOV Mug, Beer
!Invoke Drink, Mug, dwBeerAmount
!.endw
worst of it all, karbon doesn't even *care* about our passwords, he just wants to generate posts at this forum so others will reach sufficient numbers making him less lonely at the top...
