PB 3.91 Final - Broken User Libs List

If anyone finds a broken lib, please post here, so we can get the authors to rewrite them for 3.91 Final

-PBZip (Polink Error)
-ZuserLib (Unresolved external symbol "_errno")
-PurePDF (fails on example 5 - cause it requires ZuserLib)
-X2D (Reports saying TB_Debugger Library is missing)
-Tailbite - .:FIXED:.

Why you don't test the beta? Why you report this bugs now and not before?

I had some major app on the hoven and did not use any beta, only 3.90, which worked fine with all the libs i had, that is the reason.

Sorry, but I had no time to Beta test this release

These aren't Num3's userlibs, so it wasn't up to him to beta test them anyway!

There are plenty of people that don't use pre-release versions of PB in production (probably a smart move).. I'm surprised that there isn't a longer list!

- The X2d lib should be reprocessed with latest TailBite versions, since helper libs are not needed any more.
- You can still use TailBite if you place lcclib.exe in the Library SDK folder. I'll try to change TailBite to use Polib instead in the next days. Sorry for the inconveniences.

Why I don't use the betas : too much to download ; please use RAR/7Z, not ZIP.
BTW, I hope the updates are also available via www.purebasic.com/update and not only via SmartUpdate (some firewalls don't like it).

Why wouldn't you use zip? It is one of the most common (and supported) compression formats *ever*!

http://www.bitzipper.com/ is a pretty cool alternative to Winzip, if Winzip isn't your thing.

For a privat Programmer it is nearly impossible to test everything. Look the two beta for PB3.91. Many unsolved Problems, which fred&Co. doesn't found.

With the release of the two betas everybody could see, that the linker-change isn't a easy thing, and that everybody should test it. It have allways installed two versions, the last offical and the actual beta.

Most users don't have the interest in testing that you and I have though - they just want stable working production versions...

Because it's worst archiver. For example, if you compact Purebasic_Update_3.91 with RAR, you save about 800k. In my experience, RAR archives have 80-50% the size of ZIP ones.

Hmm, from broken libs to compression utilities.

Zip used to be my choice, many years ago (8-10). But using them wasn't
always flawless for me, or my friends. Every so often, we would get a
bad one, corrupted, I beleive was the term..

I tried rar once, and never looked back. I still use WinRAR today. It has
features that WinZip does not have. But more importantly, and this is all
it takes for me, is that I have never had a rar get corrupted on me.

Probably because I use this feature, as a default, when I make my rars:

- "Recovery record"
Set a size of the recovery record in percent to the total archive size. The
maximum allowed value is 10%. Larger recovery record allows to recover
from more serious damages, but at the same time it increases archive
size, so 1 - 3% is probably optimal. This input field is available only if you
enabled "Put recovery record" option in the General options of this dialog.

That's always set to 5%.

There are some other nice NTFS related features,
but I don't use them.

- "Save file security data" option
This option has meaning only for NTFS file system and allows to save file
owner, group, access control and audit information. You need to have
necessary privileges in order to use this facility. Processing of security
data may decrease the speed of archiving operation, so set this option
only if you understand its meaning and really need it, in most cases
security processing is not required for home users.
This option is supported only for RAR archives.

- "Save file streams" option
This option has meaning only for NTFS file system and allows to save
alternative data streams associated with a file. It is especially important
under Windows 2000 and XP, which use streams to keep some file
dependent information such as file descriptions. If you use WinRAR to
backup your NTFS disks, it is recommended to enable this option.
This option is supported only for RAR archives.

To each his own, there is no wrong answer here.
