AmigaOS 3.2.2 released
Re: AmigaOS 3.2.2 released
In your second link, it says AmigOS 3.5 and 3.9 were released at the end of the 1990s. And now we have 3.2.2 released? How does that versioning make sense?
Re: AmigaOS 3.2.2 released
its true that 3.5 and 3.9 is OLDER than 3.1.4 and 3.2.x ... its a mess about pattents naming....

@BarryG Such versioning, is not uncommon. Not always understandable, but not uncommon. I seem to remember Mark Sibly having an unusual numbering scheme for one of his products, but no longer remember the details.
Personally, I am still waiting for an update to OS/2 Warp 4,
I guess one could argue ArcaOS is the update I have been waiting for.

Re: AmigaOS 3.2.2 released
I'm no expert on the subject, but my understanding as someone who resurrected his A1200 last year to develop some games, is that OS 3.5 /3.9 were software updates to the existing 3.1 ROM and incorporated third party fixes, patches and application to improve the look and feel. OS4.0 was a rewrite for use on PowerPC processors.
The more recent 3.1.4, 3.2 and 3.2.1 are fixes, improvements and updates of the 'original' 3.1 code base and in fact come with new ROM's so you don't end up having to softkick (load new ROM info into RAM) at boot.
Of course, there are different companies and licensees involved and what I've written above is an oversimplification.
Personally, I run 3.1 on my Amiga, although I have bought a new 3.2 ROM which I've still not got round to installing yet! I'm happy to go this route because it 'feels' more like a natural path to me. I have a HD image of 3.9 and I don't run it because I really don't like it.
Re: AmigaOS 3.2.2 released
3.5 and 3.9 were kept locked in the hands of their developers so development of the Classic AmigaOS had to start again from 3.1, hence the 3.1.4 and later.
If you look at mainstream, you'll notice that we never seen Windows 9

Back in the day with MS Word, MS skipped some versions just to keep parity with WordPerfect.
