I put the old post in the quotes below. My hard drive got filled during an extraction of a background installation (7z). Propably due to that my IDE has lost all user data and was relaunching in preset mode.
How can i recover my personal data?
[s]I recently used Windows 10 x86 to disabled animations (ease of access). To do this i quickly closed my PB IDE and did the switch.[/s] Now restarting the IDE has reset all user preferences - the IDE starts as like in mode first install.
I closed the IDE to prevent from more damage. How can i recover the old settings?
Here a little more detail: it seems all data has been erased or disabled. The PB version starting is the same as before (6.0 x86). [s]Nothing done on the OS by the user would consent such data loss, however compatibility issues (screen DPI zoom) can be affected (but that should not do anything to the IDE).[/s] /edit2: Install of Opera was running.
Could some Windows user settings do anything there? What should i do next? I wonder if my data still exists and could be restored, do not want to accidentially erase it.
/edit: this topic could be part of a different sub forums
/edit2: Propably caused by full hard drive!!! I now got aware that the hard drive was lacking free space and a background install of Opera browser was running. But i still got no clue how to rejoin my previous data.
I think moving the current pref to a '.bak' or something before writing the new one can be a good idea for sure. Or improving the preference lib to be resilient if the disk is full or if the pref file can't be created could be even better. I agree it's not great to loose your pref for such cases (even if it's rare).
But had you known this is something to take care of? I guessed a disk-full-error would skip the latest changes. I still wonder how it eats everything (though the history still seems to keep something...
