Free space in avi, mp4, etc ..

Post by Kwai chang caine »

Hello at all,

I search to write quickly little informations in my movies with PB and obviously,... read it faster after :mrgreen:

And i have discovered in a trailer of "The Catcher Was a Spy "
https://youtu.be/bA1NL1BVOOk
They are a sentence already writing into it, by GOOGLE :shock:
ISO Media file produced by Google Inc. Created on: 09/25/2018.
He is everywhere this one :? :lol:
And it's the same thing in anothers trailers of Youtube :shock:

So i say to me...if something is already writing here, it's surely possible to write another text :idea:
That can be an idea for engrave a personal movie, in the case of someone copy and say it's his movie :?
But for me, it's simply for write a reference impossible to erase by the user
But they are surely numerous idea for use this tip :D

So, the text begin at the octet 347 and finish to 410, but surely the allowed space is more big, because i have read an AVI and this time no GOOGLE sentence, all is empty and more than 347/410 octet

After several test on MP4, AVI, that works perfectly, VLC read without problem and after my text is always here 8)
But i need when even your specialist advice, before made the most big crap of the world and kill all my collection of movies :oops:

Have you already heard talking about this free space ?
Perhaps you know true software who use this space ?

Or simply, what do you think of this new bad KCC idea ? :oops:

Thanks and have a good day

See what you can make of this: https://mpeg.chiariglione.org/standards/mpeg-4/systems

As you can see there are some textual descriptors in there.

Many fileformats are actually a series of appended chunks of data. I recently wrote an EXIF tool and found that plain simple pictures contained an impressive amount of extra data with over 100 extra information fields (additionally to the image data). Several file formats are well documented and most fields invisible for the general user. Windows for example uses those infos to display additional info if you hover your mouse over an image. Some of the fields are dynamic and contain a size field, so you can easily read and write extra information into the files. wotsit.org was THE popular site for fileformat info but it currently seems to be offline.

Hello Bitblazer
I have read 152 movies and see apparently GOOGLE is not alone to right something in this space
And you have right, this informations is not always at the same place :|
But apparently, other software use this space, i have found
Movie 1 ==> OISFT,VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1
Movie 2 ==> irtualDubMod 1.5.10.3 Fr | http://www.virtualdub-fr.org
Movie 3 ==> OISFTNandub v1.0rc2JUNK
Movie 4 ==> 2010 - http://www.videolan.org
Movie 5 ==> .080CHAPTER03NAME=Chapter 3
Apparently always ascii text, but sometime hieroglyph, and it's perhaps dangerous to overwriting :oops:

I tinks the best way is adding text at the end of movie
I have test and that works too, and my text is not erased 8)
