Complete OT: Looking for rock songs with choir...

Post by Kukulkan »

Hi,

maybe crazy to ask this is a development forum but I'm playing in a band (Keyboards) and we want to do a concert together with a choir (mixed, 20 people). We are looking for popular Rock&Pop songs that are heavily utilizing choir (eg "Another brick in the wall" of Pink Floyd or "You Can’t Always Get What You Want" second half of the Rolling Stones). Every song suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks!

keyboard... hmm i know Professor Brian Cox (♥ his docos!) used to play keyboards in D:Ream but i cant think of any choired-up songs of theirs heehee :D
choir... didn't Metallica try an entire concert with a choir? it couldn't be too hard to replicate that lack of success. <James> im thinkin' metalhead teens actually want a choir instead of metal <Lars> great idea James lets do that
i think ive heard Guns n Roses "Sweet Child o Mine" choired up a few times but that mightve just been all the drunks around me singing it
Billy Joel "River Of Dreams" has lots of choirable bits. Choired and choirable not being valid words of course, but this is rock'n'roll, baby.
Brian Adams "Summer of 69" kinda
Pink Floyd - also Comfortably Numb, Learning To Fly, etc (didnt they have backup on most of Pulse)
Phil Collins/Genesis quite a few such as True Colors, there's even a choir version of I Can Feel It Coming In The Air on youtube
Elton John - ones like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me ... lots of ooohing and aahhing choir parts heehee
Mike & The Mechanics - The Living Years, kinda need a choir for this
Robert Palmer - She Makes My Day
Sting - If You Love Somebody Set Them Free
Tears For Fears - Sewing The Seeds Of Love
The Dream Academy - Life In A Northern Town ("heyy ummmummmmummmummmuhhh!")
Alan Parsons Project - Eye In The Sky sounds kinda choirish
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
Electric Light Orchestra - Telephone Line
Jefferson Starship - Nothings Going To Stop Us Now
John Lennon - Woman
Toto - Africa... Rosanna... maybe even Hold The Line
Fleetwood Mac - lots
The Beach Boys - lots
Stevie Wonder - HaaaaaaaapppppyyyyyyyyyyyyyYYYYYYYYYYYY BIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiirthdaaaaaay.... haaappppyyyyYYY biIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRrrrrtthhdaaaay

Wow, thank you very much. I'll have to check these songs in the next days. Thanks to youtube... :D

But it is important to know that we do not try to perform such songs by a choir. We play with full band (Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards/Organ, main male singer etc) and the choir has to support. We know that nearly every song can get performed by a choir but we are looking for songs that utilize the choir in the original arrangement.

Thanks!

yes i cant think of too many "with choir" songs sorry, just lots of "choirable" harmonies heehee. hopefully youtube is a bit more helpful
see if your choir can pull off a brilliant version of Toto's Africa like this! :) :) :) (18 million viewers can't be wrong)
(actually this choir has quite a lot of other great covers which should give you some ideas!)

Hello Keya,

yes, this "Africa" version is great. But it is not what we want to do. We have a complete band including main vocals (male singer). We do not search for great choir covers. But "Africa" may be a song that easily may become adapted or re-arranged for us. Let's see...

Thanks anyway,

Kukulkan
