I didn't know this was a tennis forum????And instead of the slogan, "Feel the Pure Power", it will now become: "Feel your power of your Balls!"![]()

Re: A better name?
Maybe you guys are interpreting too much into the name?Kuron wrote:I wasn't even thinking that. So that is a double innuendo. I was thinking what many people teach their little kids and have for ages... Boys have turtles and girls have monkeys.PB wrote:> How is the name 'Monkey' a sexual innuendo?
Because you spank it.

The product is called "Monkey X", the logo/mascot is the head of a monkey (the animal).
One add-on Framework is called "Diddy" (another monkey head as the logo),
and there are 3rd party IDE's like "Jungle IDE" and "Mollusk".
It is the first time here that I read somebody associates this with sexual innuendo or spanking, really.
Somehow it is in the line with PureBasic, especially for hobby and indie programmers. It is no competitor
for PureBasic, as both are completely different. Actually I think both can co-exist easily and can complement
the toolbox of many users. PureBasic, SpiderBasic and Monkey X are also all in that price range we like, not that
several hundred or several thousand dollar tools. All three don't use the "old style BASIC syntax" and are different,
and nonetheless they are "easy to use like BASIC".
I would like to see both co-exist without bashing of each other, and actually I didn't see any bad words against PureBasic
within the Monkey X community. The opposite is the case and there are quite some PB users also using Monkey X already.
The above mentioned Mollusk is also written with PureBasic, so the tools can indeed complete/complement each other nicely.

The name change was a good idea. The product is called "Monkey X", the logo/mascot is the head of a monkey (the animal).
Both are good products. Monkey has the advantage of it actually works on my system. But given that Spider is Alpha, I am sure it will in time...
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories.
Re: A better name?
Could you use Google Chrome for SpiderBasic Alpha testing? I installed Chrome for the first time,Kuron wrote:But given that Spider is Alpha, I am sure it will in time...
and use it only for Spider testing, as Fred said it is the best idea for now.

Chrome is the only browser I have used in years. Other than compatibility issues with YouTube and Gmail, I love Chrome.Danilo wrote:Could you use Google Chrome for SpiderBasic Alpha testing? Say what? All three are made by Google, so that's weird.

I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

They seem generic.Seymour Clufley wrote:What's wrong with WebBasic? Or PureWebBasic, to retain the link with PureBasic? Or even PureWeb?
PureBAL it has a old school cool yet bleeding cutting edge sound.
Besides being descriptive and unique, I also think the name is catchy.

Having a hard time in deciding
"Browser Application Language"
or
"Browser Applications Language",
I'm just not sure which is proper.
Keep it BASIC.

Don't do that to an old guy like me!heartbone wrote:PureBAL it has a old school cool...............
I just had a mental overload trying to figure out the connection between PB and the IBM 360/370 Assembler BAL instruction, Branch And Link: store the return address in register 14, then branch to the address in register 15 plus a displacement.
Before long I was in major core dump mode, remembering things like the system module, IEFBR14. It consisted of a single instruction, "BR 14". Its sole purpose was to branch immediately to the calling module using the contents of register 14.
Please be careful what you suggest. Harm can come to a guy with that sort of thing going on in his head.

how about SpiderBasic

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

All others considered, sounds like a splendid name.IdeasVacuum wrote:how about SpiderBasic

Re: A better name?
I see I came late to the party
If the intend is to promote the recognition of the Pure word, and there needs to be a connection to a web, and Fred is already in love with the word Spider, and the syntax is not really BASIC then the only logical outcome is:
PureSpider
I should know, because I took a LOGIC class on Vulcan just a few weeks before the bad Romulan came...
BTW: Maybe the Off-Topic section is a better place for this discussion...

Re: A better name?
I would definitely "reinforce" the Pure or PureBasic brand with a new name. It would also indicate that it's the same language family and comes from the same authors.
PureNet
PureWeb
PureBasic.WEB
...
Just my 2 cents.
