Hi,
After a HDD crash of a 500GB HDD a few months back, I installed a external 2TB USB Backup HDD.
A few days back the HDD CRASHED also ...
It seems the MFT file corrupted.
and also the MFT backup is damaged.
After testing some backup software, and bad results,
I'm writing a backup program myself, using PB.
Problems/questions:
- is it possible to positions a USB HDD heads on a selected sector ?
- is this possible to do this via bios control ?
thanks,
marc

Yes, because w/o the ability -- you can't recover files -- and I've recovered files off disks with trashed mft's. (using Runtime.org software)marc_256 wrote: - is it possible to positions a USB HDD heads on a selected sector ?

Years ago; there was a nasty virus that all it did was trash the mft at a random time, but that was years ago. Are you running any caching software?
