As the end of the world nears....

Post by SFSxOI »

Tomorrow, Friday 21 December 2012, according to those that go by the Myan calender, will be the last friday ever because supposedly the same calender predicts the end of the the world on Saturday 22 December 2012.

You folks on the other side of the international date line from those of us here in the U.S. will have experienced the beginning of the end sooner than we here in the U.S. will. However, we kindly ask that you keep it to your self and do not tell us how it works out. After all do you like it when someone tells you how a book ends that you have not read yet or how a movie ends that you have not seen yet, do you? :)

Ok, the Myan calendar does not actually predict the end on 22 December 2012. The calendar simply ends on that date which I suspect is because the Myans simply got disgusted because they knew Obama would be elected for a second term and end up making everyone so poor that no one would be able to aford calendars so why bother to go any further, the Myans were probably smart people. :)

The advantage of a 64 bit operating system over a 32 bit operating system comes down to only being twice the headache.

I still hope, PB 5.10 beta 1 comes before the end of the world

i like ts-soft comment and agree. i remember reading that the stone in which the mayan predictions written was not big enough so it happened that the predictions end at the bottom of the stone so the researchers deduce that this is the end of the world. but if the stone are bigger then the predictions may reach 3000 A.D.

I wouldn't worry too much about what the Mayans had to say. They weren't very smart in the first place; natural selection removed them from this Earth years ago for that reason. Why worry about what an extinct race said?
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.
PureBasic: Born in 1998 and still going strong to this very day!

No matter if the world ends or not, I'm still going on vacation the day after.

Mayans were not "removed" and they are not "extinct". Their population simply plummeted for a lot of different reasons. Their descendant are alive today. And considering the average knowledge of that period in the Americas they were pretty smart, good observers of the nature and the cosmos (moon and venus) and they also had a written language.
They were also "barbaric" and cruel, exactly like people today but in a more direct and honest way.
And there's nothing to worry about, because they didn't say anything about the end of the world.
Some of your smarter contemporary did all the work.
I will not comment on the childish idea of ignoring "what an extinct race said" because even wasting time must know a limit. :(

Well said luis.
History is a great resource no matter the subject. Critically though, one must sift through many interpretations and depictions given that victors write history and publishers are biased.
What brings demise of civilization is a fascinating topic. One cannot argue that Mayans exist today in such few numbers because of their intelligence.

don't worry guys, I've got this.

thanks to the awesome power of PB, I've managed to code a solution

Code: Select all

IncludeFile "Apocalypse_Mayan.pbi"
InitApocalypse()
SetApocalypseDate("21.12.2012")
StartApocalypse(#False)
I'll be running it throughout the day, I'm pretty sure it'll keep things together until this whole thing blows over.

you're welcome
