Hi,

As the originator of this thread, I made my thoughts about the "multiple-choice" questions. The reason? It's simple, because nearly everyone can mark all points - and most of the people will do. But I wanted to get a feeling on "what really hurts". It is fact that most people like to check multiple answers, but then we will not get an idea about what really counts.

I vote for "one answer" on this topics.

I'm also willing to do add poll-link to the first page. But I'm a little disappointed about the fact, that such simple poll is not possible without people using this thread to discuss or even want to "make it better". The more polls we start, the less people are willing to participate. Nevertheless, I will support the one poll because of the better options.

Additional, I think that "public commercial (commercial and professional products with appreciable price)" also perfectly fits to people who are programming solutions to specific problems or only one customer. If they are payed on this (hourly or a fixed price), it fits perfectly. Maybe, simply the word "public" should get removed. I wanted to know, how many people are really earning money with PureBasic. For them (as for me), it would be horror to loose one plattform (we just announced the Linux support to the press).

Well, that's the down side of a forum.
You have to admit that getting a quick overview by browsing all the different (partly wrong) answers isn't that easy and not effective at all. A better poll platform should have been used from the beginning on.

Maybe, simply the word "public" should get removed.

What about adding sex (female/male) and a Combobox for location (country)?

For the last question "What should the PureBasic team focus on?" it is better
to allow more than one answer in my opinion. Simply because 'quality enhancements' (bugfixes)
is most important for all programmers. At least it should be.
Is it possible to allow priorities for this question, c4s? Choose 3 items out of 8 and set priority 1,2,3 or so.
If many/most choose 'quality enhancements' it would be nice to know what comes second (f.e. games or apps), no?

Maybe 'supporting more plattforms' could be made a separate (optional) question with an input box?

I'm just astonished about the different discussions in the forum. Some want PB to get Open Source, others want to drop Linux support. Some others complaining about a game-development focus in the last updates and others about missing quality etc. I thought it would be a great idea to simply ask the users to get a objective view. And best way is a poll in the forum (I thought).

I'm shure that I do not need to present those answers to the PB team. They are reading the forum, too. I hope, that the poll is a good thing for the PB team. You are true in your statement that it is all on Fred's decision. But maybe he finds it interesting, what people want. As he, again, is living from PB licences, he may be interested in growing the number of satisfied users. The more professional users PB will have, the more PB will be spread. This is the reason for my question about the programming intention.

Let's have a look, if this poll is a good sthing or if it is getting ignored.

PS. I also would suggest Fred to offer some additional "professional" features as a priced products. For example a cross-plattform GUI builder or a "professional" edition of the IDE which offers refactoring and CVS/GIT integration. Also, there could be some payed "professional" support offer. But as said, it's all in Fred's decision...

On the whole I would like to develop for Windows and Linux, it would be nice to develop for Apple too but I don't have that kind of money. Overall, I decided to stick with windows for now, because of some of the more glaring issues that popped up regarding cross-platform compatibility / bugs / etc. I would like to see the 3 platforms improved to the point one day, where I could write any application or game I want, and compile it for my target platform without having to modify anything. Perhaps too lofty a wish, but a nice one.

From what I have read in the past, if I recall correctly.. The major sticking point is that Fred does not solely rely on PB for income, he has another job which often comes first. I think I have heard also, that he's stated having no intention of trying to turn PB into a full-time endeavor. One can only guess at the reasons why, many of them likely valid. But that is the crux of the matter.

I don't think so. However, it would be possible to select a number (as used for "How satisfied are you?"), like:
