Purebasic newsgroup?

Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.

Purebasic newsgroup?

Don't suppose this exists, somewhere out there on Usenet?

It's easy to search for a newsgroup:
https://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=purebasic

So there is an English PureBasic group on Usenet, but currently it's virtually dead, and flooded with spam.

Interesting.. I don't know exactly how Googlegroups works, but in this case it seems like that group is googlegroups specific? I couldn't find anything for PB on my Usenet providers own servers, which is why I asked.

I don't think we'd have too big a spam problem with petitioning to have a group made under one of the "normal 8" heirarchies, as I don't recall ever seeing lots of spam (if any) in the comp.lang.python/ruby groups for instance. But you need to petition to have such a group made under one of those addresses (as opposed to the alt. heirarchy which simply requires a control message).

I thought it might be worth putting together a proposal if enough people thought it were worth it.

In my experience, which isn't too extensive, a prime use of such groups is member communication when no other/better method exists. We already have this forum. What would be the advantage/benefit of another mechanism?

cheers

Like I said, there are potentially lots of people out there who read newsgroups as opposed to forums, or are more active in one versus the other.

Think of it this way.. There are lots of forums out there for other programming languages that also have very active newsgroups. It's just another method of participation I suppose. I would probably participate in both, myself. But I realize some people may just prefer to use forums as well.

I was just seeing if there was any interest. I also see it as another way of increasing PB's visibility (as was recently discussed).
At the end of the day the worst we could do is fail and have a dead newsgroup.

Doh, it's such a long time ago that I participated actively in the Usenet ...
Just out of curiosity, I searched the newsgroups on the server of my provider, and didn't find a PureBasic group either. So the group that I mentioned very probably only exists in Google groups, sorry.
