BlitzBasic uses a licensed version of fmod, and it can be used to create shareware/commercial games without having to buy a seperate license for fmod. I found this out by seaching for fmod on the Blitz forums.

Too expensive I suspect ;) it's around $1000 for a single product and 2.5x that for a site license. Although there is a shareware license for $100.

P.S. I'm not advocating the use of it, just sharing what I know.

Perhaps we should start a pool and get the money together :)

I think implementing fmod into Purebasic would be amazing, but not really financeable. Here's something about engine resale from fmod.org:

Engine Resale (Integration into a commercial, non audio related engine with intention to be re-sold as middleware. I.e. game engine, graphics engine.)

There's no price mentioned for it, just a contact, but it won't be cheap I think. And really not everybody of us uses sound in his/her application. Okay, 3D-Sound-positioning and the DSP-chain, internet-streaming, etc. is fantastic, but not really neccessary for all of us. But perhaps the fmod-team loves PureBasic and wants to feature it with a free license :P

This would give PureBasic a $2569.00 price tag!

http://audiere.sourceforge.net is a free and excellent alternative to Fmod ... Look to the beginner forum and help to make it run on PB ...

But how on earth can Blitz afford this, and still have a reasonable price tag to us... There must be some way to implement this... Perhaps Fred should email Mark, and ask him how he went about it?!?

Erh...

My intentions where wrongly interpreted...

Sebastian Schulz (German forum) has already done a resident lib for FMod, but for version 3.6, which is not compatible with 3.70.

what i was asking was for someone to rewrite this to version 3.70.

And remember their licence is free, is your software is free!

I think, implementing FMOD in PureBasic, would be really cool, but only if the price is not too high. Perhaps someone could check the conditions via e-mail and inform Fred then, if the price fits. Perhaps he would like this idea, too.
Perhaps we should start a pool and get the money together
Dude, i think this idea is great! If anyone could donate 5€ and we get enough users, it schould fit.

So if we write freeware software, then the FMod lisence is free?!?!
But what if we want to sell the software?!? Then what??!

I'd really like go understand how the lisence stuff to FMod works..
And how expensive it would be to implement it in PB...
And if this would effect us "end" developers, or just charge Fred a one-time payment?!?
If this turns out to be a one time payment for all PureBasic lisences, which allows us as developers to sell our software, then perhaps, if Fred supports it, we all could contribute some money to make it happen?!?

I hope haven't misunderstood... :p

Yes, otherwise it`s not worth buying and implementing it.

Because he paid the fee for the resale engine of course
Email from 25. Apr 2003:
At the moment it is 2.5 times the price of a site license. Currently that means $8000. FMOD pricing will be going up soon so it could be $12,500 in the next month.
If the product is more of a lowbudget shareware deal, it might be significantly cheaper.

... and Blitz is much oftener sold the Pure ...
But ... check out the audiere lib it´s a quite nice alternative !!!!
