There a similar but possibly worse problem on the Steam forums in relation to what Vera is saying.

It started with administrators have decided to "abuse" the bad word filter by picking some words that aren't necessarily bad but might have a negative "feeling" to some and replacing them with non-sense words or phrases but now the practice has grown to include some words that no one considers bad or negative and unless you are privy to the "joke", it can alter the meaning of what you are saying unless you use alternative words the filter isn't sensitive to.

There are ways to code a word in your message to bypass the filter, but if you do that the moderators will hit you with an infraction that could get you permanently banned from the forums even if you used it to prevent one of their joke filters from altering your message.

I quit going to those forums because of stupidity like that that goes on there and for some other reasons I won't go into here.

Suffice it to say I don't like any forum that tries to censor or alter the meaning of what I say, though I will accept a bad word filter's removal of words considered to be offensive like swearing and cussing because I avoid using those words anyway.

And before anyone complains about the thread being hijacked, it's my thread and I don't care if it gets hijacked, it might be interesting to see where the conversation goes.

There's neither melancholy nor dramatic in my posting.
I'm clear about these facts.

But it's tragic that again you're only using the means of disparagement by trying to ridicule what I have written and toping it with sarcasm.

Another drop of evidence that certain userneeds are not only neglected but even offended.
Do you e.g. give any thought to why the german forum is dying down ? Does anybody bother or is it enough to simply rely on member replenishment?

You do what you do.
For me it's an act of responsibility pointing towards a subtly undesired development as one sign shows up again.

It's true, it's true, an emoticon does speak a thousand words

Someone new to this topic would think a Mohammed smiley was being censored, instead of rolling eyes? :?

My hate meter is REALLY high right now!

I was eating breakfast at 4am when I watched this. I was really trying to find the differences while eating my cereal(fruit loops!) when that face screamed at me.
I nearly swallowed the spoon and a fruit loop shot out of my nose and onto the screen(right about her screaming face's eyeball). I don't know how that happened but it REALLY hurt. It was not a very fun experience. At least I can breathe through that nostril now...

Who are you to tell me what I can and can't say?

If you don't like my messages then don't read them, but do not try to censor them by telly me not to post them!

yes - and I've just realized, now they've even removed it for good - that's how we are treated

I don't have so much internet experience but I do have the impression that the rolled eyes is one of the standart supplied emoticons people are used to apply as common sign of communication.

Removing it, as it had been available for years, is a sanctioning of expression.

But no worry - Image - there are alternatives ~ grab one while they're hot ;)

I love this one. I'm not sure what I would use it for though. Thanks, Vera. :)

I like most emoticons. I think the only one I didn't like was one of the ones on the Steam forums, I forget what it stood for but it was a different color from all the others and didn't even look like a face to me.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Mr. Green ( ) though I'm not really sure what it stands for either...
