I still love looking at and using Rings old self modifying code. Just that little piece of good code made me write a larger library of procedures for anticracking, and posting crackme's various places

I knew i should have stayed out of this thread :shock:

I don't use your code today at the company, i use the assembly routines we wrote that night hehe
Though that code was pretty much being written for a project which was inspired by the self modifying code :P

As I re-read my post today I noticed it was too harsh and that I had overreacted a bit. Maybe it was because I see so many programming forums where the community help destroy it and act superior leaving the virtual place a desert land.

I have a personal motto: if you are not going to say anything good then just don't. When it happens on messageboards, two things happen:

1) People will be scared of posting and participating;
2) People will start a flamewar that leads nowhere.

Even being somewhat new here (thefool has a valid point but I've been reading this forum way before becoming a member), I've learnt lots of things from professional coders who actually take their time to teach something or to share code. And we know that many programmers in the business always like to keep things to themselves and act arrogant.

I've learnt a lot of things here that even a book containing all the useful posts wouldn't be enough. Even the creators of the software you love are sharing their code/work (ie. the amazing COM framework by freak) or informing the community the product's next step (Fred's excellent report on PB4.20).

And all the good coders who wander around the sacred land of the Tricks & Tips section with a code ready.

It just gets to my nervez when people don't see all that before their eyes and can't put value where value is. That being said, I'm sorry if offended someone or sounded too harsh. Peace.

This forum rocks. Lots of great coders who hang around helping, lots of great code sitting in the archives. Its even better if you combine the french and german forums into the mix. Tons of fantastic stuff in there too.

The people who see it as changing are mostly likely looking at it from a different point of view than they originally had. Its true that we've seen more people self destruct in the off-topic forums in the last year or so, but that simply comes with a larger userbase.

I think that all posts in off-topic should be ended with a smiley just so people not to take anything in here seriously.

:wink:

Amen to that! :) These forums work this way for most of us here, I think.

I wish aaron would remove his first pic though.. Ouchh... :wink:

That surely is one awful pic... on the other hand, it managed to keep people out of this thread for almost 3 days. :D
