Samsung 226BW ?!?

Post by techjunkie »

My old Dell CRT Monitor don't have many months left, so I'm going to buy a new TFT one.

I've been looking at Samsung 226BW. The reviews are VERY good! BUT it seems as there are different "internal" models. A, S and C - and that you should go for the S model.

What I understand are the A and C class model made by two different subcontractors to Samsung and has other specifications.

Does anyone here have a Samsung 226BW, if so what class model? Are there really that big differens between them?

Model S : Samsung, the best.
Model A : AOC, not the best but there is a profile wich enhance the colour quality, the AOC tend to go to the blue color.
With this profile, the DeltaE is better than the S.
Model C : it suxx ! Don't buy one with this panel !
Model C' : yes, there are 4 panels, a very new called C' (C prime), it is by far the worst panel ...

I was going to buy one but the new HP W2207 should be considered if you accept to have a glossy panel.

I've just been going through this route. On the 226BW I'd personally want the "S" panel. There's been a lot of discussion on the merits (or otherwise) of each at the overclockers forum and other places. The only retailer I came across who specifically states an "S" panel was play.com: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/653/860/-/ ... type=genre

In the end my shortlist came down to either the 226BW or the Dell 2407. I finally decided on the Dell (better panel technology and larger screen) It's just arrived this morning and all I can say is "wow" :D

(http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk are doing a good deal on it)

Yes, I've seen that page and it's really a big differens between A and S. and now there is a C class!

Guess I have to run between stores and ask them to unpack monitors...

Dell 2407 you say? :D Yeah! It seems really good, but there are a big differens in price between them. Samsung 226BW is €350 and Dell 2407 is €700 in Sweden - twice the price. I'll think I'll go hunting a 226BW S-class...

Might have to use the secret menu to find these out but then you would have to have it turned on to do that, what shop is going to let you do that and chance not getting a sale.

An honest one that I'd prefer to be a customer of. Vote with your wallet and walk out if they refuse. No "turn on" = zero chance of sale so they have nothing to lose

The only way to know wich panel is used is to use the panel info wich display the panel manufacturer, a lot of users stated that they have a A or a S panel because they see that on the sticker, only trust the panel info BUT Samsung know that and the latest 226BW don't have this option in their OSD ...
Again, if you are not a hardcore gamer, the HP is very good alternative.
If you don't like the glossy panel or can't use such panel due to where you are sitting, the Philips 220BWS is not so bad.

You can't compare the quality of a computer screen with a tv screen except when the tv is a 32" full hd, when it is only hd ready, the screen resolution can't go up to 1366x768.

Sure you can.
I just got a Phillips FlatScreen 32" with a VGA input. I connected my computer and ran it at a resolution of 1280x900 and the quality is awesome. It is NOT HD ready.

Latest GPU drivers have options to "improve" the quality of videos (the dithering) with TN panel, check this (in french, sorry)
