Intel 45nm technology overview

Post by techjunkie »

On Intel’s 65 nanometre process, gate dielectric walls are 1.2 nanometres thick – that’s equivalent to five atomic layers across, if we put things into perspective. This essentially means that Intel’s processor engineers are designing chips on an almost atomic structure level, and shrinking current silicon dioxide gate dielectric walls even further would exaggerate this even further.

Current CPUs are built with 90 nanometers tech (0.09 micrometers), and i believed it was very near to the limit.

As i have read, the quantum computers are the next generation, and they are thousands times faster than the current ones.

There are a lot of 65nm chips out there as well.

I read about someone making the comuter chips in 3d...
I don't think it will be a long time before we got like 500ghz in a normal home computer.
I like logic, hence I dislike humans but love computers.

... or back to 1 Ghz with a thousand cores ... ( each system thread has it's own core using an optical Bus/Mainboard - interface.

It really puts things in perspective.
I love Purebasic.

45nm huh? That gotta be interesting, that tight circuitry and one sneeze and you crash your computer!

Yeah, I read that Intel had some people working on a cpu with 8000 cores right now. From an article in a Swedish Computer Magazine. One of the guys are from India and working on a doctor's degree at The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, at the moment.
