libpangocairo again

Post by raygr »

What version of gtk is the latest beta using?
I'm getting the same error on Xandros as with the last beta, it's looking for libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.

Any chance of a full list of dependencies?

you will have to install GTK 2.6+ IIRC.

Any chance of it using an earlier version? A lot of distros aren't up to 2.6 yet and it can be a major upgrade installing it. It will mean that a lot of people will be unwilling or unable to install apps developed in PB.

Anyone know exactly which GTK packages I need to install? I had a look in the Debian repository but I don't see anything there that looks right.

If you are using Sarge it won't have newer versions in the repositry, you may change an entry in /etc/sources.list to etch upgrade the Lib and change it back.

Thanks Nik, I'm using Xandros. I eventually got it, I had to use Sarge to update GTK, then use Etch to update it again, about 100MB altogether. Unfortunately the second upgrade completely trashed the system :?

I'm really disappointed about this. Is there any chance at all of going right back to GTK 2.0? That's what I assumed we were voting for a while back. I now think that anything later than that is just not suitable for developing on. It's like PB Windows requiring XP to run.

What's everyone else's opinion on this?

Hmm don't know in the Linux Desktop world Systems generally get updated quicker than in the Windows world, so I don't know, I know though that it runs fine on Ubuntu 6.06 which isn't the newest version. I don't know though version polictics in the Linux world are definitely much more complicated than in the windows world, that's mostöy because the only want to establish Source compatibility not binary compatability since they don't need that for OpenSource software which greatly helps in squeezing out Bugs I think it makes them very independent. It makes it hard for ClosedSource Software though.

Well I tried again but this time Xandros trashed itself when I installed an OS update :(
I'm not having much luck here...

Anyway I'm going to be busy for the next 3 weeks so I probably won't get a chance to do any more during that time. When I get back I'll try some of the suggestions in Trond's thread on dependencies.

I might try another OS too. Has anyone got PB4 working on DSL or Puppy?

DSL and Puppy probably have very very old packages.
