I saw this in the chatroom awhile back* Alpha12 was kicked by berikco (please use nick without Älpha...for nick completion)
Please use nick without Ber...for nick completion.

Well, it was a play on the kick message from the channel. For some reason you thought the Alpha is an "illegal" set of characters to start a nickname with .. why such an unwritten rule exist I do not know.
I suggested, "Fair", because if its "unfair" to have a nick name that begins with Alpha, it should be unfair to have a nickname begin with "Ber" ... see where I'm going?
Just wondering ... of course.

No need to drag my nick into your message.
A nick is something you use to identify ppl quickly.
Fred made purebasic.....this forum.... and the IRC channel.
fred uses AlphaSND (he explained once why he have that nick) and uses Fred on the forum.
So its not very clever to take the big part of Fred's Nick, add a number and start chatting.
2 ppl asked me that day in a private message if it was Fred! One of them also suggested that Alpha12 should choose another nick, as AlphaSND is also addressed as "Alpha" on IRC.
And myself got tricked also when almost sending a message to the wrong person.
Alpha12 did not responded to private messages, so got kicked wit a message he better choose another nick. Thats all.
On this forum, whe had a funny guy once that registered as AlphaSND, yes, it was not taken
So he was asked to change his nisk and i reserved AlphaSND.
Same with nick like "Fred1"... happened also before
So feel free to use any nick, but not something like "Berikc12" this would give you a bad reputation anyway if ppl think you are me
You can use of course a nick that has part of another users nick....there is no identity problem with DarkDragon and DarkGirl

I think I may have gotten off the wrong foot on this thread ...
What i meant was .... by the kick message itself, it looked like Alpha12 was kicked because of nick completion. That tells me there is a bug in Bericko's nick completion code (depending on the IRC client).
But now it seems more clear
People assume. And by the two private messages you recieved, you know that two. Whoever PM'd you, are people who assumed instead of read
I now understand that Alpha12 was kicked due to people assumpsons (sp?), and confusion.
But it does make sense, because it wouldnt be good to try to assume Fred's or anybody else's nick on IRC or these forums
It's just plain bad taste. Hehe..
Anyhow, thanks for the explaination, would be nice to have it in the FAQ for people to read ... instead of people learning the hard way, now that this rule is written down.
