From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Ok... All is in the title, excepted that I add I have got a computer which get this new version S of W10. In fact, this is only for me, that it is new.
Past :
1) I bought this PC at a famous low-cost shop.
2) I switched it on, and a voice... I was angry about this voice, I never never asked, because it was fairly my goal : buy a absolutely silent computer (no harddrive, no air flow, etc... zero sound)
3) So I deleted lots of things which disturb me : sound, network, etc...
4) When I wanted to execute CMD.EXE, the nightmare began...
5) I discover so the mode S and the fact I had one month after the buy to connect this device to the network.
Help me to start an EXE or a DLL, to replace a CMD.EXE, fire this Windows and go to Linux.
Thank you...

Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Boot via a windows rescue stick and open a cmd box.
Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Hello infratec : is it legal ? I have a bootable 4 GB USB but if I remember, I tried it and the legacy mode is not available on the SETUP.
Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Usually the first thing anyone does that gets a PC with Windows 10 S is convert it to regular Windows 10 Home (Microsoft allows you to do this for free)
Win 10 S is only useful if you just want to install apps from the Windows App Store.

No.
Usually, I buy a computer to code. Test Purebasic again, buy a new license of Purebasic.

Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Nevertheless, you must change the version S to a "normal" version (via Microsoft Store), or you will NOT be able to use any programmes that are not from the M$-Store !Olli wrote:No.

As Paul said, it's the first step everyone takes immediately after discovering this S version. Because with this version, "normal" use of the computer is not really possible. (Unless you install a completely different OS).
Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
I do not ask you to use the bug this software has before I opened the pack, leaving the shop : everybody can write my own hardware microcode... (1803)
No, just a clever challenge to extract me from this, you who know Windows. Replace an EXE or a DLL to execute a backup and load a pack Linux.

Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Build a boot stick with CloneZilla and save the entire disk (empty sectores are not stored, so the size is Ok)
Then you have a backup.
Then you have a backup.
Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
If CloneZilla is not already stored in the harddrive, it will not be possible, I think.
Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
If your hardware is capable of doing it, you can do the following: Windows 10 S to pro and back again. That way you can switch between Windows S - Windows home/pro - linux and back again for free as you like. Or was the real question, how to do it in an unofficial way
Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
First, I thank you for the read of this subject which does not give you absolutely nothing.
I thank the modo too which move this subject from the "coding" section to the "general discussion".
The two ways actually I can just imagine are :
1) a hardware microcode modifying, due to one the bugs Microsoft seems to "make". Very hard way requiring an http address to a factory server.
2) a macro executing a DLL in a program I do not even know if can install or not.
Here, Bitblazer adds a suggest : but this suggest which is well-documented consists in two ways :
1) go to specific store site ("normal" way)
2) try to install forbidden program which tend to go to a specific page.
Problem : no network so way neither official, neither "forbidden"
No solution actually. I need a "local" solution without network. I will try to give some indices...
The 1st one ( and the main one) : no additionnal CD or USB stick. Just a forbidden 826MB sized compressed directory of driver on the harddrive.

Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
I would've thought this goes in "Off Topic", because it's not general discussion about PureBasic either.Olli wrote:I thank the modo too which move this subject from the "coding" section to the "general discussion".
Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Sorry, i have overread that you removed the network connectivity. So this situation sounds like you should be able to do a factory reset (reinstall) with the existing installation. Usually windows 10 has such a function and that would give you back the network and you could continue as mentioned.

@Bitblazer
I will read the link you give, and will hope this way will the good one. I will give a back information about it.

Re: From Windows 10 S Mode without network to Linux
Step one has be done : Microsoft S Mode is dead.
But this toy (OS) is unable to forbid manually a local server (Parameter >> System >> Networks list). It has just a case box to set automatically a specific network and, worst (Microsoft is under the ground), set on a neighbouring network without my permission. Bug bug bug...
