Using Datasections seems to crash the windows x86 and x64 compiler versions 5.70 LTS in this case. Please check EncodeProblem.pb. Tested on windows 7 x64 with latest patches.

Only a part of your code is required. Here is considerably shorter code that still demonstrates the problem.
Crash confirmed with PB 5.70 (x64) on Windows 10. Maybe the Data lines are too long (just a guess)?

Hi Little John,
I checked the lengths of the lines of code and discovered that the strings were just over 4000 characters, but I understood that the maximum length of literal strings was 8000 characters.

Anyway I decided to split the lines into two data.s lines and the code compiled ok.
Is it possible that with unicode enabled that 4000 characters are read as 8000?

Hi davido,

personally, I don't think that the problem is directly related to Unicode.
I just made some tests with PB 5.46 (x64) on Windows 10. That is the last PB version with ASCII support.
My above code caused no crash -- neither in ASCII mode nor in Unicode mode.

With the same code, I could reproduce the crash not only with PB 5.70 (x64), but also with PB 5.62 (x64).
To me, it looks like some bug has been introduced into the newer PB versions.

BTW: Is the maximum possible length of a literal string somewhere documented officially?
In the help, I only found literal strings mentioned on this page, but as far as I can see, there is not a word about their maximum length. :-(

Thank you for your comments. I can see that my 'guess' had rather flaky foundations!

Eventually 'the penny dropped' and I remembered where I had seen this error: It is a compiler generated error when using the Dialog Library.

I have the code under Windows 7 Pro
and Windows 10 Pro (1803) with PB v5.70 X64 without errors

Under Window 10 Pro with PB v5.62 X86 and v5.70 X86 I get the following error after reloading the compiler
After a second compiler it works again...

Is definitely a problem with the too large strings in the DataSection.

I have swapped the data into an ASCII text file and included it with IncludeBinary.

The line breaks I filter out only in the program ...

Strange.

Today I retried Little John's version and got no error at all.
Then I added in front of John's data a data line with a length of 8190.
Still no problem.
But after I duplicated the first long data line (now 5), the error occurd.
After removing all 8190 charakter long data lines, the error is still there.
Closing PB and restarting PB, Little John's version runs smooth again.
