Very weird this... I just noticed that the 64 bit PB IDE ) running on Vista in a VM on a 32 bits XP as host) seems to be faster (a lot!) when loading code than the 32 bits version of the PB IDE running on the host itself!
Is there an essential difference between the two versions? I can understand under x64 memory access etc. might be a bit faster, but it should not make that much difference, should it?

May be it's due to Vista instead. Did you compared Vista 32 bits vs Vista 64 bits ?

I will have to reinstall Vista 32 to test that, I don't have it handy as a VM at the moment. Will try later.
