M$ will abandon VB

Post by leonhardt »

It seems that MS does not plan to evolve VB as a language, which means VB is dead, not only VB6 ,but also VB.net.
  .what a pity, hope MS could make VB an opensource language. BTW,Anyone knows about the future of VBA?Image

I reckon VBA will be abondoned and JS will be embraced. Even today it's possible somehow to write Office macros in JS, apparently.
On the other hand, VBA didn't really evolve much, either in the last years, and I doubt MS will survive the shitstorm when every single macro-ridden excel file will stop working because of a future office update, so VBA will most likely be an option for a long time to come.

Read the article to the end... 8)

https://devblogs.microsoft.com/vbteam/v ... r-net-5-0/

You quote:
One of the major benefits of using Visual Basic is that the language has been stable for a very long time. The significant number of programmers using Visual Basic demonstrates that its stability and descriptive style is valued. Going forward, we do not plan to evolve Visual Basic as a language.
[...]
You forgot the end of article:
Visual Basic is a great language and a productive development environment. The future of Visual Basic will include both .NET Framework and .NET Core and will focus on stability, the application types listed above, and compatibility between the .NET Core and .NET Framework versions of Visual Basic.
