Windows Adminstrator question...

Strange issue:

I am the administrator (as well as the ONLY user) on my computer, and
appear to have all the privileges, but I cannot access some important
programs like Cmd.exe or PowerShell.exe

Code: Select all

Windows Message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.
You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
I've looked through my 'Administrator' and 'Kaspersky Total Security' settings and cannot see anything obvious.

NOTE: Although Windows shows that I do have full access, I don't and don't know when I lost it.

Any clues on how to regain full access? :?:

Need more info?
OS version and build?
Can you open a command prompt from the start menu?

Have you checked the permissions of the programs/files/folders concerned?

The best idea to begin with is deleting "'Kaspersky Total Security".

Why? Well: And of course there are similar articles about Norton Antivirus, AVG, Comodo, Avast and many more. :-D

Just use Windows Defender. It's all you need.

Thanks fellows,
This'll give me some ideas on 'where' to start.

PS- I'm using Win 10 Pro (64bit) and I've never had an issue with Admin rights.

I've used Kaspersky for 10 years or so, so I don't believe it is an issue... but I'll check that out as well.

I do suspect some rogue program that I've recently tried 'adjusted' the settings
for it's needs. :(

I'll report back when I figure this out.
Thanks again
