The major downside of ReactOS is probably hardware/driver support, unless you happen to have perfectly match hardware.
https://reactos.org/wiki/Supported_Hardware according this list, it's not very easy to find fully working hardware set these days.
But in modern Linux the drivers are better supported/available, if I have some old hardwares I might have better luck with a popular distro with LXDE/XFCE desktop and work right out of the box.
However ReactOS is a good concept for developers, and you can install Win10 and using it without activation for a really long period, if you really need work under Windows for a while but don't want to purchase a license soon.

I could run the ReactOS live-cd and it worked.
Yet as they say still being in AZlpha state I didn't go any further.
As far as I understand should ReactOS become a replacement for the windows-OS (starting from NT or ..) and should be able to run the original drivers made for windows. So, having perfectly matched hardware is not the question I think.
I still hope to get full use of ReactOS.
