Any idea how to get into an password protected Access db?
Any idea how to get into an password protected Access db?
Last year the wife created a database, and has now forgotten the password.
I really don't want to have to type all this stuff in again, so does anybody know if there is a way to get around the password?
Appreciate the help.

I've spent a fair bit of time messing with various programs for Office password recovery and have had mixed success. The newer the version of Office the harder it is to crack, as their encryption algorithms are now quite strong.
If you want a commercial app, just do a search on Google. They are all similar in price and features. Or, if you want to go the cracker route, try looking on astalavista. They have links to a number of programs specifically designed to crack passwords and most are free but require a bit of techy knowledge to use. Just make sure your anti-virus software is up to date if you visit any of the hacker/cracker sites!
Hope that helps.

Here is one that looks good, but it's only demo and can only recover the first two characters

Meant to mention....most of the commercial apps use various methods to crack passwords. Often through brute force (trying EVERY combination of chars) which takes forever, or using a dictionary attack. In the dictionary attack, the program goes through an external dictionary of words and tries each one in turn, along with wildcard variations based on the criteria you set.
My point is, you only get small dictionaries with these programs, so you'll have to do a search on google (or on the vendors website) for more to download. I had one text file that was 60Mb and contained millions of words. It still failed to crack a Word doc I'd created to test it after 2 days with a very simple 6 char password!!! Then again, I've had other Office docs that were cracked in less than ten minutes. It's a bit of a lottery. There's one commercial app that guarantees to crack any Word doc in less than 5 days iirc.
I used these programs because I had at least one user per week on our network who forgot their password and managed around 50% success rates.

Nirsoft and Elcomsoft do tools. Elcomsoft uses CUDA and other apis for GPU cracking. I wouldn't trust seedy hacker tool sites for a stable solution.
A hash is used to check that the user has entered the valid password. The hash is generated from a combination of RC4 and SHA-1 algorithms
The truth hurts.

Wow, that was a long time ago.SteffenSperling wrote:Hi dit you solved this password problem?
Sorry, No. In the end we found an excel extract that wasn’t too old and rebuilt from their.
Can’t believe I didn’t thank those that tried to help. I apologise to all for my lack of manners.
