Good Freeware Stuff
Re: Good Freeware Stuff
Looking for things related to multi-console and Windows, I ran into this
one:
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-ti ... ows-7-cmd/
If you step out to the command line (like use Start/Run, then enter CMD and Enter). you call CONSOLE instead of CMD. It lets you do what CMD does, but with added features.
Thing about it is, I have been accused of harping using Console over Windows when it comes to coding. I won't deny it. But then I know a lot of the advantages of using Console if you add in some of the features found in the Windows APIs. Now you have a freeware program that takes advantage of those features, and you can try it out for yourself if you want to.

has-been wanna-be (You may not agree with what I say, but it will make you think).
Re: Good Freeware Stuff
Here's a freeware substitute for the Windows' CMD. It does what CMD
does, but let's you expand on things like size, colors, tabs, fonts, and
so on. http://sourceforge.net/projects/console ... t/download

Re: Good Freeware Stuff
I don't think this Koyote soft stuff belongs here... there's a seperate section on that site, dealing with 'uninstalling' , removing toolbars, resetting home pages, quick stuff whatever. Seems to me it's on the border of adware / malware... Unless you're in desperate need I would steer clear.

Old but powerful calculators emulation on Windows and Linux:
Texas Instruments TI-30
Casio fx-3600P
Casio fx-85v
http://www.friedemann-seebass.de/almetare.html
Windows 8 calculator is much worser than the Casio fx-3600P (the one i own since i was 14), of course.

I like the caculators, but their sound effects? Sounds like a tennis racket striking the ball each time you click a key

Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.

I've been using Acronis True Image 10 on my PC, but now I need to backup a friends system and I just found this Paragon suite (102 MB download) which looks like pretty much the same thing.
Paragon Backup & Recovery 2013 Free Edition - a time-tested backup and recovery tool. With it, you will have full control over the security of your system and data. Based on solid commercial backup and recovery software from Paragon Software, Backup & Recovery Free Edition will give you a rich set of features that you can trust. "20th of May 2013 will go down in history as the day when Stolidus Simulations released their greatest creation yet: Robot Vacuum Cleaner 2013. Its gameplay is like nothing no-one has ever seen and will revolutionize the gaming-industry, if not the modern world. Stolidus has managed to create a game that will suck players into its massive world that encompasses several rooms, and on top of that tells the most spellbinding and creative story ever told. One may laugh at the idea of creating a game where the player is expected to sympathize with a robot and care for its actions, and struggles in the world, but Stolidus’ extravagant game put’s those claims to the test and proves once and for all that Solidus is the greatest gaming-company the world has ever seen. "
It is truly amazing what you can get for free nowadays!

Re: Good Freeware Stuff
This doesn't really belong here as it costs five dollars USD, but it's so cheap and so excellent that it should be mentioned somewhere. I'm talking about the Start8 button from StarDock. I recently bought a couple of new computers and I couldn't get anything with Win7 on it and Windows 8 turns me positively computercidal. After a few minutes I just want to smash the damn thing. I got a free start button recommended by cnet and it was pretty good, giving me back most of my functionality. But it still let those f**king charms come out if I got too close to the edge of the screen. Then I tried Start8 and found that it is very configurable, all the way from using some of the metro features right down to using absolutely none (which is what I've chosen). Now my new Win8 computer looks, feels and behaves just like a Win7 machine. If you hate Metro and you can spare five bucks I can recommend this without hesitation.

These should be all free alternatives. I like the first one (already mentioned here years ago before Win8 happened).netmaestro wrote:This doesn't really belong here as it costs five dollars USD
