Many (semi-)professional programs are available for Windows and Mac OS X.

- Cinema4D, ZBrush, Vue, Terragen, Mudbox, Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Poser, DAZ Studio
- Ableton Live + Push, Komplete + Maschine, Reason, Nuendo, Cubase, Pro Tools, Sibelius, Tone2 Synthesizers, EW/QL Sound Libraries, and thousands of VST(i)/AU plugins
- Photoshop, ArtRage, Gimp
- PureBasic, Monkey X, NetBeans, Mono / Xamarin, SlickEdit, Code::Blocks, Sublime Text

...and many more, always available for Windows & Mac OS X.

Just a hint. ;)

I threw Zorin OS on my laptop.

Network works, google works. Software Center can't download a damn thing though. Can't resolve anything when I try to install shit.

This is the kind of crap that turns me off to Linux. How can something so basic as name resolution on a package manager not work, when the Internet itself clearly does?

Well, it obviously works for me and thousands of others.
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

I too have not been able to download "shit", but everything else seems to download ok.

Try turning off the "search while typing" feature -- it may help.

If that doesn't work, double-click the name of the package you're trying to install, and then click the big "Install" button.

I've often found this solves the problem when all else fails.

I have long wondered if I could take an archive of a Linux installation and copy it to another computer and get it to run.

I created a Paragon backup of up my daughter's (10.3 GB used of 48 GB) newly installed UBUNTU partition.
The attempted experiment was intended to see if it could be restored to a 26 GB partition on my laptop containing Zorin.

Because of the different partition sizes, Paragon took about 70 minutes to move the data from the backup file to the hard drive.
After the restore process finished, Paragon informed me that "If you have Linux installed, please reinit its boot loader".
However the system booted and UBUNTU and Windows® were boot options.
UBUNTU was the default installation and it ran fine.

After installing boot-repair on the computer (very unusual in that it automatically ran after the install finished) and run,
the boot was restored to offering all three installed OSes, UBUNTU, Windows®, and Linux Mint 17.1, and it even remembered the default of Windows®.

Yes, you can move an entire Linux installation, even from a desktop to a laptop, and it still works! :D

Good stuff to know.
