A little 2D platformer

Post by em_uk »

Hi,

10/06/14 : Edit : You can now see a video preview here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNvJS_GmG_E

For the past few months, when I've had time I've been dabbling around a little 2d platform game. Here you can download and give it a test.

It's far from finished, but has pretty everything you need to get a good game out of it.

A few things to note :

- You can use the cursor keys and space to move around, if you have a gamepad, that should be found
- It's full screen at the moment, 640x480x32
- It has music you cannot turn off (so delete the mod file in the folder if you want no music)
- to quit use escape
- the code isn't wholly optimised, please let me know of any issues
- the sounds have yet to be compressed

The aim of the game is to collect the stars, once all stars are collected an exit burger will appear, collect that to advance.

I will eat my hat if you complete all 20 levels I've done so far.

Hang around for 15 seconds and a ghoul called Mrs Pruet will make her way towards you, so be quick.

The sprites are a mish mash from Alex Kidd on the Master System, and some basic blocks (as I suck at graphics). The music is from Crazy Sue II on the Amiga.

As I said, just a little something, lots to fix and implement yet ;)

Enjoy

Really nice !! And i enjoy the music, sound like a demo !

Few remarks:
When you go right, then left, the sprite doesn't flip immediatly (maybe it's on purpose ??)
When you reach the end of the ladder and there is a rock you can't go through, maybe the sprite should fall instead of beeing stuck.
I would like to jump with the Up Arrow, it would be more intuitive than Space since you go down the ladder with down Arrow...
After a "Game Over" the game is not reset... (ie the boxes that disappears in level one don't get back)

Really enjoyable and funny !!
How to reach the next level ??[edit] OK you have to eat all the stars then the Burger !!

There are 2 methods to program bugless.
But only the third works fine.

Ahh thanks for the kind words.

I always try and make the game as fun as possible, trying to bring in ideas from games I loved playing as a kid.

It's nice to see that seems to translate back into fun :)
