Well I tried again but this time Xandros trashed itself when I installed an OS update :(
I'm not having much luck here...

Anyway I'm going to be busy for the next 3 weeks so I probably won't get a chance to do any more during that time. When I get back I'll try some of the suggestions in Trond's ...

Thanks Nik, I'm using Xandros. I eventually got it, I had to use Sarge to update GTK, then use Etch to update it again, about 100MB altogether. Unfortunately the second upgrade completely trashed the system :?

I'm really disappointed about this. Is there any chance at all of going right back to ...

Anyone know exactly which GTK packages I need to install? I had a look in the Debian repository but I don't see anything there that looks right.

Any chance of it using an earlier version? A lot of distros aren't up to 2.6 yet and it can be a major upgrade installing it. It will mean that a lot of people will be unwilling or unable to install apps developed in PB.

libpangocairo again

What version of gtk is the latest beta using?
I'm getting the same error on Xandros as with the last beta, it's looking for libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.

Any chance of a full list of dependencies?

Re: Funny Norwegian joke

Do you have to be Norwegian to understand it? Can someone translate it please?
I think it's that joke about the geek who finds a frog who tells him she will turn into a princess if he kisses her, but he just prefers a talking frog.

I don't speak Norwegian but there are a lot of English words with ...

OK. I guess the lower you can get it then the more Linuxes it will run on.

I think it is a gtk version problem. Cairo is a requirement of gtk-2.8 (with 2.6 it was not.)
Looks like the gtk version required for PB is the one we compiled the libs with,
even though we are not actually using any 2.8 specific commands.
I will see if we can get the minimum requirement to be 2.6 ...

Re: Can't install, missing libpangocairo

The problem is, no body else but the Xandros developers can help you with this issue as Xandros, while is based on Debian, is a lot more different than Debian.

Yes, it pays to be careful when installing anything on Xandros except from their own server.

I have not tried DSL, but I wouldn't ...

Thanks Freak, I'll try upgrading gtk.

Next question, does anyone know where I can find 2.8 as a .deb? I can't find it anywhere.

Can't install, missing libpangocairo

I'm trying to install PB4 on Xandros (Debian based) but when I try to run it I get the message:

libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object: no such file or directory

I've installed all the dependencies listed in the install file, and I've installed a few packages that are supposed to ...

This looks very cool.

I'm now downloading the support files I need to get PB4 running on Xandros 4.0, then I can try Debianisize.

So, when will you release pb4_beta1.deb? :D

I don't believe that what Walmart etc. sell is relevant to this discussion. The market Fred has to cater for is us, the people who buy PB.

I think that Linux users generally are the more tech-savvy end of the market and tend to download software rather than buy it at shops, especially considering ...

One can only imagine how great and stable the 4.0 version of PB would be if Fred didn't waste his time working on the Linux & Mac versions, which only a small handfull of people will ever use.
