ProGUI Library V0.59 Beta Released, New low price $19.99!!

Post by PrincieD »

Hi guys!

This is only a minor update as I've not been able to get much done recently due to my Dad dying of cancer and my girlfriend leaving me :( I've been in a pretty messed up state :(

I've decided to lower the price of ProGUI to just $19.99 (£10!!) as I am absolutely broke and seriously behind on my rent :( things definitely arn't looking good for me at the moment.

New in ProGUI V0.59:

- Fixed minor graphical bug with new menu styles.

- Added style parameter to CreatePopupMenuEx

- Updated examples.

- Updated docs.

Hi,

I like the toolbar and rebars. 8)

One thing, the button example crashes out on line 142 with an invalid memory access error.

Hi srod!

The button example shouldn't be there yet, i forgot to remove it from the archive! still in it's prototype stage so don't worry about the invalid memory access lol

How many people find this library useful? is it worth me continuing development? I kind of need some moral support at the moment as for those that read the previous comments that were removed (thank you admin!) I'm a little disheartened by the response I got. I had hoped the community would give me some encouragement and understanding.

Hello

PrincieD, there are always going to be some scum who stick a knife in, I know, had plenty myself over the years.

We have a distinct shortage of good tools for PureBasic (except for some very nice visual designers) and I think the more tools that are made, the more middle expertise users (and many beginners!) will be able to get up to speed with PB without having to invent every little thing that they perhaps may not be able to do for themselves..

Continue your development, don't give up or give in. There aren't enough people of your calibre.

I like what you do, please don't stop.

Hi,
I watched all the examples, pretty impressive!
I liked the rebar mostly

But i noticed its a DLL.
Is there a PB lib available?

Thanks.

Fangbeast: Thank you friend, thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate your support! I will continue development and I won't give up on life. I just needed to know that there are still good people who care :) It makes it all worthwhile.

Pantcho!!: Thank you :) yes there are 2 user library versions included in the archive, a normal library and threadsafe version. The examples use the dll version simply so you don't have to copy files around before you can see the lib in action! :)

PrincieD: I agree with the others, sorry for your loss.. after allowing yourself some time, please look forward to the future!

About the libs - not sure if it makes sense, but if I make a unicode app is a unicode lib required, or are the existing ones sufficient? Thanks.

I just tried the examples. I had a problem with ButtonExample1.pb. I got an invalid memory access on the line with ImageButtonEx (using PB4.10b3). I think this function is also not documented in the help file. HTH.

Just purchased it. Demos looked great.

After installing the resident, I get a few errors on attempting to restart the compiler.

Constant already declared in another resident #Buttons_showte (truncated)
and #LVM_Setextendedlistviewsty (may be truncated).

I also receive a constant already declared with a different value for
#I_Imagenone

I think I only have the base PB residents loaded (but I may be wrong).

Any helpful hints? :) Or should I not be installing the residents?

cheers

Hi Chris,

words are difficult really where the loss of a loved one is concerned; particularly when cancer is to blame. No one who has not sat through the agony of watching a loved one pass away because of that most terrible of diseases can possibly imagine what a hell on Earth life can be at times. You feel helpless - you are helpless, there's nothing you can do except sit and watch and offer whatever comfort you can.

I understand what you are feeling right now all to well. At one point three members of my family were in hospital all being treated for cancer. Even though I am not religious, I did wonder at that time what the hell we had done to deserve that? Anyhow, two of us were treated succesfully, but alas my mother succumbed at what is a young age of 58. She was just eaten alive from the inside - absolutely terrible.

18 months on and all I remember now are the good times, I remember her being strong and proud and full of joy for her three sons and one granddaughter. Memories of those last few days no longer carry much of an impact because I now know that the person who had suffered so much at that time was not really my mother. I miss her of course, but when I look up to the wall to see a picture of her face, I still see that disapproving look scolding me for my latest dumb act! It brings a smile now rather than a tear.

As I say, I am not religious, I do not believe in a God, but I do believe that my mother is still with me regardless. With time I am sure you will feel the same about your father. For me, it was always a case of remembering the good times and sharing the dark ones with those closest to you.

I guess we all find our own way through such times, but the point is that there is always a way through and you'll find yours soon enough.
I may look like a mule, but I'm not a complete ass.

mskuma: With regards the unicode app I'm not sure whether a unicode lib is required, the other libs should work as ProGUI internally doesn't use unicode but if you have problems I'll compile you a unicode version and also add it with the next update :) Just a question, how does PB handle an app that is unicode and threadsafe? would the userlib have to be a special unicode thread safe version?

rsts: Thank you for your purchase! it means a lot! I included the source code for the resident just in case there were problems with constant clashes. You can edit the source and recompile the resident in tailbite. I'll alter the offending constant declarations myself too and re-upload once I get round to it! :)

srod: I'm so terribly sorry for your loss too. My father was only 54 when he died of cancer of the esophagus. His throat was basically blocked with tumors and he couldn't eat so it was a loosing battle. He didn't have the strength to fight the cancer and was too weak for chemo. I've been at uni for 3 years and really regret not being at home. The last chance I had to see him when I could talk to him was at Christmas, he looked like an old man just skin and bone, thats when I knew something was wrong and later found out it was cancer. He had a stroke at easter, I spent 3 days in the hospice with him before he died, i'm just glad that me and my mum and brother were there with him when he died, to hold his hand and to tell him I loved him. It was heart breaking, it still is, watching someone you love so much die in front of you. It will haunt me forever. My heart goes out to you srod, no one should have to go through such a terrible thing. I don't believe in God either but my Dad is in me and my brother so he's still alive in a way and he lives in my memories. Thank you for taking the time to write about your own personal loss srod, I deeply appreciate being able to talk with someone that has been through the same thing, thank you.

Micko: Thank you! I have more impressive things planned for this lib :)
