[Resolved] How to close topic

Post by ramme »

I have started a couple of topics and the
answers that I received were very helpful
and resolved the problem I was addressing.
Is there a protocol for me to mark the topic
as solved or do I just leave them open?

You don't 'have' to do anything, but if you want to indicate that your
problem has been solved, just change the title of the topic to "[Resolved] Your Title"
to let others know. :)

No, you do it by editing your first post. That way it shows up as [Solved] for others, but also lets others see the accepted solution if they have the same problem.

I hate the [resolved] posted in the topic titles.
They take space which could be used for a better description, they are distracting and it's just something I have to mentally remove from the text when parsing the posts in the forum.
I hate in fact KCC for constantly using them. And he asks a LOT of questions.
I'll hate you too.
Just for the record.

I'm the opposite. If I'm searching for the answer for something, it's more convenient and faster to see which post has been [Resolved] in the sea of search results, instead of having to open each topic manually to see if it's been resolved.

Hi Manuel,

I agree with you. Generally you are looking for solutions first.
Then you look at threads that haven't been solved.
I was just trying to figure out how to close a topic.

Maybe DontTalkToMe just loves to hate everything and everybody.
He is kind of funny though, in his own grouchy way.

PS.
The book you learned English from was, obviously, very good.

him! (her?)

That's weird. I was wondering the same thing.
After I referred to DontTalkToMe as him, I
realized that I really don't know.

I do that because at the begining a member say to me, it's what i must do, i also think it's a good practice 8)
And i am sorry to ask too much questions at your advice...if you have the chance to all know, it's much better for you :?

And your aggressive advice about me, can be answered in only one picture

Marking a post as resolved is a bad idea, because it means you might miss out on a better solution. That is, someone might skip the topic even though they could give you a more efficient or superior answer. You don't want to get stuck with the first answer you receive.
