What will become of Visual Designer ?

Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.

What will become of Visual Designer ?

Post by Kwai chang caine »

Hello at all

Since the v5.0 the Visual designer have changed to a Form designer.

The Form designer is much nice, modern, full, etc....
But in my bed this morning, i ask to myself : "What is the fate of our old designer by ANDRE and FRED ??" :(

Is it dead or to oblivion ??
Image

Is it possible a day, FRED or ANDRE (I don't know who is the owner ) give to the community the source :D
Or better!!! Sale the source ??? like this a little bit of money can return to the owner :D

Like this, each member can modify it, and perhaps add functions, and mainly finish this Designer, because at my mind several function have missing :(

I answer immediately to the first question who come in your head
Why, you want to save this old designer, then a new and nice are come ???

For several reason, i answer....
1 / First i'm a nostalgic
2/ I do not give up something that helped me several years :?
3 / I have create numerous GUI with this splendid tool, and the .PBV cannot be open by the new designer. (So i have added a button on my IDE, like this i can open the three designers, like i want )
4/ Until now....no translator have created for convert .pbv to .pbf

Thanks to have read my "frenglish" gibberish until here
Have a good day

Hi KCC

R.I.P. Visual Designer - past the sell-by date now - nice on Windows but not so useful for other OS?

You can convert your early code to .pbf by copying the form defining code into a new file, it's only plain text - if the code is very old, you will need to remove retired functions but even then, not much difference.

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

It will live forever if at least one of us (specifically you) remembers it. :)
I am happy to let it rest in peace.

Hello at you two :D
R.I.P. Visual Designer - past the sell-by date now - nice on Windows but not so useful for other OS?
Aaaaah!!! i don't know that !!!
Obviously, i just use windows...i have already enough difficulty with him....
If a day, i go on LINUX...it's a miracle..the LINUX community can quiet sleep, it's not tomorrow KCC come

I don't understand
There are several time, i try, and the PBV are not plain text  or KCC have again dreamed
It will live forever if at least one of us (specifically you) remembers it.
In fact....it's the first time.....and like the first women...never i forget the many night hours i spent with him.

Mainly with Visual designer, this is the only program with which I could encode PureBasic and it works at the first time
I am happy to let it rest in peace.
Not me :(
There are a french expression, who say "standing dead !!" (Debout les morts !!) i vote for that
It was created by Bericko.
Thanks for this information, i hope it was create also in Pb ??? 8)
Like the source code of the first PB IDE, perhaps it's possible to have it ?? 8)

Perhaps he read that, and can give more information on what he want to do with his old baby :D

And maybe he can take KCC (and other obviously) to be the guardian of the tomb of Visual designer :D

I don't think sources will be released for the old visual designer.
Quite wondering why you want to still use an older tool when there's a new one that does more and is better integrated with the latest PB version?

Hello POLO

..........
..........
etc ....
You have not all read

Does not see in my request a disrespect.
I know all the works you have do for give to the community this splendid new tool, i have thanks you for that 8)

But, in the world, there are two type of persons....me ..and the others
Hummmm hummm !! No no, more seriously... (But sometime i ask to me, if it's not a little bit true :()
Because i'm nearly sure, i'm alone to want using sometime the old Designer :(

So, two type of persons, one, and it's the majority, even 99%, who like to have always the last thing, the top of the top, etc....
And other, like me, just something that sufficient
Imagine.. since 6 years, i not using again all the native PB ide function
And when i see the works of GNOZAL with his designer and JAPBE, i found that too much full and complex for me.

I use already XP, and i'm sure i'm the last to have quit W98 in the world
Each time i try to move a little bit, and when i see all the new command to learn....i surrender

I have quit QuickBasic for Visual basic 6, after have try VB3, VB4, VB5 and surrender each time
But a day, i say to me, KCC you must quit the DOS, because i have too much problem with it.

I quit something, when i'm forced (W95 for USB of W98, W98 for XP drivers, etc..)
I hate changing, but it's in all my life (Since several years i have old car, old clothes, old PC, old keyboard, old worman ......)
I not like play games, but the only i play it's space invader
I have always the old skin of IDE of PB v3.94, without new icons, etc...
Even in VISTA and XP, i have the same GUI than W95...
I listen all the 80's music ...with nostalgia....and sometimes, i cry almost, i can't do anything, i'm like that :(

I understand someone like to change, but for me it's always a hard works to get used to the new
Furthermore, like i have say before, i have numerous GUI in PBV, and i'm forced to use the old, because no translator PBV to PBF exist :(

It's for all this reason, and furthermore, that i'm sad this old splendid tool of bericko, be forgotten, and dead.
Because his visual designer cannot be used in other place, just for PB...and like PB not want of him now.....it's a pity to lost all this job :(
I hope BERICKO and FRED thinking of that...

For me, the old VD is sufficient, just the minimize of windows is missing, or the drag/drop of PBV file, and also the management of the PanelGadget, perhaps some little function, but nothing more..
But it's all....for the remainder, i'm happy with him ...like a fish in the water :D

For someone...i hope i'm not alone, keep the history of PB it's important, it's the reason why when i have learn FRED give the source code of the first PB IDE, i have all do for take it, for my collection 8)

Thanks POLO for have read and answer me 8)

Kwaï chang caïne, i'm with you on .... i'd love to have the old Microsoft original Source Codes that created QuickBasic 4.5 or VBDOS 1.0
or even the VB3 to VB6 ...to see and learn how it was done :)

When USB Printers came out, the old QuickBasic 4.5 and VBDOS 1.0 EXE's would not print to USB Printers
i then just created small Windows 16-bit EXE with VB1.0 for windows using vbrun100.dll in same directory
that would take saved .TXT file from DOS's QB4.5 or VBDOS 1.0 then print it thru VB1.0 Window version to USB printer.

When i click [Print] button in my VBDOS 1.0 created EXE , it calls VB1.0 16-bit Windows EXE to print that TXT file using USB printer.

i guess you could do same thing using VB6 or PureBasic 32-bit EXE
just save DOS EXE's data to text file, then use modern 32-bit EXE to open and print that .Txt file to USB printer.

Thanks VB6_to_PBx ....to give to me this tips :D

I have forgotten to say, i use always DOS prg in my XP..and also i have always an old printer epson stylus 440 with parallèle port

For print i have two solution...jump into a dumpster as soon as I find an old printer, and it's what i do all the day
Or modify all my old software in QB45 ...and that...i have not the courage :(
Already i started at least 30 software and never finish

The problem i have programming each line with chr() character, and that not works with USB :(

Sure, nothing to see with Visual Designer... but thanks to you and your tips 8) , i can perhaps using all my DOS software until again 30 years

i'm not on my old programming computer with old QB4.5 or VBDOS 1.0 16-bit program source codes ,
but instead on new WIN7 64-bit computer, but i did find some old code on this computer i had saved.

this will do a "Print Screen" in a DOS EXE and print to old Printers ( no USB )
( can modify to save to .TXT file instead , then use modern EXE to print to USB )

Source Code from old Visual Basic 1.0 for DOS

Code: Select all

SUB CPrint_Click ()

Text1.visible = 0

DIM X AS INTEGER, Y AS INTEGER, Num AS INTEGER

DEF SEG = &HB800
LET Num = FREEFILE
OPEN "LPT1:" FOR OUTPUT AS #Num
WIDTH #Num, 255

FOR X = 1 TO 25 '-----50 or 25, depending on screen height
FOR Y = 1 TO 80

SELECT CASE (PEEK(160 * (X - 1) + (Y - 1) * 2))
CASE 7:
PRINT #Num, CHR$(42);
CASE ELSE
PRINT #Num, CHR$(PEEK(160 * (X - 1) + (Y - 1) * 2));
END SELECT

NEXT Y
PRINT #Num,
NEXT X

PRINT #Num, Note$

CLOSE #Num

DEF SEG

printer.ENDDOC

Text1.visible = -1

Text2.SETFOCUS

END SUB
